Desperate for potty training help (w/ poop!)
DD is doing AWESOME on the potty with peeing. She's been trained for almost two weeks now and had no problem learning (she's 2 1/2). Pooping is another story. She is ONLY going in her underwear and it's driving me crazy! We put her on the potty, tell her to go poopy (when we know she has to go) and she won't go (she says she doesn't have to). She'll wait until we aren't around to go in her pants. We don't yell when she goes in her pants, but tell her how upset we are and remind her of what she needs to do. What else can I do???? I'm tired of throwing out underwear!!

Re: Desperate for potty training help (w/ poop!)
Once we realized that my DS could go and was just choosing not to, we selected one treat to give him as a reward for going poop (ours was a food item). The only time he gets it is if he goes poop on the potty. He usually shows signs that he is holding, though, so we will tell him when we know he has to go that he will get _____ if he goes on the potty. I also would give him that treat anytime of day or night if he went, it didn't matter if it was 7 am or 8pm or right before a meal. If he went, he got it, period.
Most of the time it works, although he does occasionally still have small accidents.

Re: Desperate for potty training help (w/ poop!)
My daughter was the same way - she wouldn't go #2 in the potty - she would hold it in for ridiculous amounts of time & wait till before going to bed because we would then put a diaper on her....the reward worked for us also - we bought a big toy that she wanted & left it outside the main bathroom door & said we would only open it for her when she went #2. Well, within 2 hours of putting the toy outside the door she went to the potty & said she did # 2. My husband & I though she was lying but we went to her little potty & she had gone! After that she had no problem going to the potty for # 2 & we continued giving her little prizes for about 2 weeks. We went to the dollar store & stocked up on little toys & let her choose one every time she went.

Re: Desperate for potty training help (w/ poop!)
It took Lily a few months to get the poop thing figured out. She was constantly going in her underwear. What finally worked for us was telling her she would get a prize if she didn't poop in her underwear, but in the potty for 5 days. We got her a Pez dispenser that she really wanted, and put it on the refrigerator so she could see it, and it would remind her. Each day we would count down how many days she had left. it worked like a charm. And then, for a while, every time she went on the potty, she'd get Pez as a treat to reinforce it.
