nickname help
DS is Alexander. DH wants to call him Xander (pronounced "Zander"). I like more unique names but i'm not 100% sure how I feel about this. For now we just call him "Alexander" which is obviously too long and I need to decide already if it will be Alex or Xander. I liked Xander b/c I thought it was a little cool and interesting and unique but I don't want him to be teased or for it to be too weird. Sometimes I love the nn Alex other times I'm like "eh" it could be a girl..... We need to decide ASAP!!! lol What do u like? TIA

Re: nickname help
My DH's cousin's full name is Alexander, and he has a few nicknames. His family calls him Zand, his wife and friends call him Alex.

Re: nickname help
Thank u! I like Zand too, and I don't mind him having multiple nicknames, but i'm not sure what I should be writing when I write about him - IE on facebook, and how to introduce him to other people/friends/baby and me classes, etc

nickname help
My friend dated a Zander for a long time. It was just how he was introduced to us so we never really thought anything else of it. His name may have been spelled with an X and I just didn't know since we never wrote it lol. I've also heard of Alexanders who are nicknamed Sandy but I don't like that since that's my nickname and it sounds like a girl's name to me (or a dog's name -- it was Annie's dog in the musical Annie).

Re: nickname help
Xander is a nice name. It gained some popularity after buffy the vampire slayer!
I like the nickname Alex too, but it is the obvious and traditional choice.
Alexander will always be his real, full, formal name... so if you both like xander as a nickname, what is the harm in using it even if it is a bit unique or untraditional? it's a nickname- it can come and go at any time.

Re: nickname help
I really like the name Alexander and brought it up to DH but he nixed it. If he had agreed, I would of used Xander as nick name. So i love it and think its a great name.

nickname help
i actually prefer Alex - Xander is a bit too our of the ordinary for me
On a side note about nicknames...regardless of what you decide, i would still try to call him alexander sometimes. My friend gave her son a nickname and the daycare teachers call him by that, however if they are out, or if someone else comes in to watch the class, they call him by his legal first name and since no one calls him by that he doesnt respond to it. the teachers get frustrated that he doesnt listen, but he is frustrated bc he feels ignored. they are now working on calling him both names to get him adjusted for when he goes into kindergarten etc
