Rocking Chair/Glyder
Did everyone get one? I didn't register for one and I don't think i will have enough room in the baby's room for one. My best friend got one and said it was a waste that she barely used hers. TIA

Re: Rocking Chair/Glyder
It's all personal preference.
I lived in my son's glider. He's 3 and I still rock him back to sleep in it when he wakes in the middle of the night. I've slept many, many hours in that chair holding him in the middle of the night.
When DC#2 comes, I told DH that I'm buying a second chair for the baby's room since I can't take it out of our DS room just yet.

Re: Rocking Chair/Glyder
I've heard some people get them and use them all the time and some never use it. I think it's a matter of preference. If you think you will use it and sit and rock your baby it will be worth it. The problem is sometimes you don't know till you get one.

Rocking Chair/Glyder
I wasn't going to get one because I also thought it was a waste and have a small nursery, but DH's mom and grandma kept telling me how much I would love it if I had it. Then on the day we registered I sat in one and saw how comfy it was so I decided to register for it even though it was expensive and I didn't think anyone would get it for us. I also didn't think we'd have room in the nursery for it, but I decided to get the glider instead of the armoir I was planning on getting. I figured we wouldn't need that much storage space for clothes for a while, and by the time we do we won't need the glider any more any way, since it's really just useful when the baby is small and likes to be rocked. Anyway, my MIL ended up getting it for us, and now I'm really happy that we have it. I can't wait to rock my little one in it! But of course, if you really don't want one and don't have the room, it's definitely not a necessary baby item.

Re: Rocking Chair/Glyder
Honestly Ro its something I can't live without...even now towards the end as I get more and more uncomfortable, that is the only place where I find comfort. And when the baby comes and those long nights start, that is the best place to spend them in!

Re: Rocking Chair/Glyder
If I were trapped on a secluded island with a baby, and only allowed five pieces of baby gear, my glider is coming with me. I nursed in it, read to her in it, trim her nails while rocking and singing... LOVE mine. I got a Dutalier from BBB and it's awesome. DD's nursery is small (it's either 9x10 or 10x10, I forget) and we were able to fit a glider, crib, and dresser w/changing pad on top in there with room to spare.

Re: Rocking Chair/Glyder
I didn't use mine much the first 7-8 months, however since then we've used it almost every single night. Especially since he turned 1...it's been a big part of our bedtime routine to sit and read in it together. It's also a comfort place for him with middle of the night wake ups. I would say it may be good to have some kind of chair if not a rocker or glider if you can fit it.
