Would THIS bother you?

My DD has a Step 2 push car. She loves it. We try to take her for walks in it as much as possible. I'm getting ready to leave for work this morning and MIL mentions that since there are so many bugs outside, they can't go for walks lately because it's not worth it. (?) So, on Friday, she brought the push car in the house and pushed her around in it.

Would that bother you? Does it seem odd?

A little background:
-DD is 9.5 months old and crawls everywhere. She has been spotted licking the floor on occasion (we have all hardwood) and as much as we try to prevent it, it's not always possible. Man that sounds gross. Her hands also always go in her mouth.
-To mitigate these factors, we have indoor shoes and outdoor shoes. Outdoor shoes come off at the front door. Indoor shoes are not used outside.

I just can't help but think about all the dirt and potentially animal excrements that are in the street where we use the car.

Am I a complete germophobe to be bothered by this?

Thank you in advance for your honest but not judgmental opinions Chat Icon

That's just weird. Not so much that she's using an outside toy indoors, but that she thinks it's a fun activity to push your DD around the house in a buggy. I've never said to my DD, "okay honey, it's too hot and humid for a walk - I'll just push you around the living room in your stroller instead!" No. You either go for a walk outside, or you stay indoors and read a book or let her crawl on her own or something.

That would pi$$ me off no end! We also have an "indoor and outdoor" shoe policy (I posted before about my SIL not respecting our rule, which is still a problem). I would just tell MIL straight out that she shouldn't take the push toy inside. It would never be okay in my world.

That would bother me. It's like saying it's too hot to take a walk in your stroller so let me bring the stroller in & walk you in it inside. Yuk!

We don't wear shoes in our house either. No way would I let an outdoor toy that gets pushed through the street in my house. I would tell MIL that the car is absolutely NOT to be in the house. Can you buy her something similar that is for indoor use only?

I would do this. Or ask her to go out earlier in the day when it's not as hot/humid with the push toy. BTW I love that car!! DS had so many fun days being pushed around in it!

I guess I could get something, but the odd thing is, there really is no room to push a toy like that around in our house so I don't even see the point - we have a traditional cape, so there's not a lot of open space, and we have a superyard taking up our entire living room.

thanks all for your responses so far!

Re: Would THIS bother you?

I am crazy too and we take our shoes off as well. But my stroller comes in the house because that is where my daughter naps and if she wakes up in the night and I can't get her back, she goes in the stroller. I wash the wheels when we come in and my kids survived and are rarely sick.

I am sure she knew the little routine and thought it was being creative. If you have carpet, I would have a big problem because carpets are gross. Otherwise, mop the floors and move past it. I have learned that although I would not do something that way, I am more grateful to have a family member willing to watch my kids. So many people struggle with childcare.

The first time someone took my son out without telling me, I freaked. Now I look back and think it was silly.

Odd ball here

Nope wouldn't bother me. Wipe the wheels and move on. Dirt hasn't killed any one, yet. For me tho, I would prefer a more compact item for 'indoor' so I'd probably get another push toy.

YES! I had a no shoes inside policy (except for a party ) even before DD was born. My FIL never respected it , neither did DH- he told me that I was ridiculous and was embarresed when I asked anyone to take their shoes off. Not to hijack your post but it absolutley drives me CRAZY now when FIL or DH wears his shoes inside the house with DD crawling-- so YES YES YES It would bother me!!!

YES that would bother me. A lot!!! I am a complete germaphobe when it comes to that stuff. I don't even sit on my couch with pants that I sat in a public place in so I don't know if you want to go by me!
Furthermore, its hot nearly every day now so I just suck it up and go outside with the kids even if its just for an hour.

This wouldn't bother me at all. I can't imagine washing stroller wheels or other toy's wheels before coming inside. But I suppose if I did have the indoor/outdoor shoe deal at our house, it could annoy me.

I'd also worry about the grit/dirt on the wheels scratching up your floor

Not to thread hijack, but I just had to comment on this. I thought we were the only ones like this! I usually change out of my "street" clothes when I get home, even if I was just at the mall, and put on clean clothes to wear around the house. Glad to hear someone else thinks similarly. Chat Icon

I agree. I'd probably laugh it off. We have a dog though and my floors are always full of dog hair, crumbs, dust, etc from the dog. I sweep multiple times a day (morning and evening) and it's still horrible.

The kids are still alive and healthy- so I figure it can't be too bad Chat Icon

BUT- your house- your rules. If you don't like it- tell her! Maybe you can pick up something small they can use indoors.

Re: Would THIS bother you?

I readily admit i don't clean my floors as much as I'd like. I've gotten to the point as FTWM that I'd rather let my house be a mess and spend more quality time with DD on the weekends than have a clean house and not actively play with her as much, kwim? I guess my thing is that to the extent the mess/germs can be avoided or controlled, i would prefer to keep it that way, since i don't get to address it as much.

I push my boys around the house in all their indoor push cars and ride ons. They love it. we go round and round the middle of the house. Both of you have been to my house so you know what i am talking about.Chat Icon

I TOTALLY agree with you. It's an outdoor toy that should stay outdoors.

It wouldn't bother me either. We don't worry about shoes in the house etc. My DS is not comming down with soem crazy disease because of dirt in my home that maybe got their from outside.

Plus there was just a study done that babies who are exposed to pets are healthier becuase they are exposed to more germs early on.
