organic chicken and nuggets
Where do you buy yours? Costco has organic chicken breast for $5.99/lb which doesnt seem like all that great a deal. I dont really know though maybe it is?
Also, i would love to know if anybody can recommend organic chicken nuggets that their dc likes. My 18mo likes ones from trader joes but they are only all natural chicken.
Thanks!

Re: organic chicken and nuggets
Have you tried Applegate farms? they make organic chicken strips. Ian's also makes an organic chicken nugget/strips.
I like the Applegate farms products in general. My DD is allergic to milk and they are casein free and preservative free too which is nice. They make everything from hot dogs to cold cuts.
If you are okay without organic - but want no antibiotics, preservative free no fillers - there is also bell & evans. (they do also have organic chicken but not strips or nuggets).

I pay 6.99/lb at whole foods or my local organic farm, so I agree with you that 5.99 isn't THAT great of a deal. I also like that Whole Foods tells you where they source their products from, which makes me more comfortable. For organic chicken nuggets I would check out Whole Foods or Fairway, and if you have a local health food store near you they may carry as well. Where are you located?

Thanks all! I am in Centereach so very close to Whole Foods, I'll check there. Applegate turkey dogs were not a hit with dd but Ill give their chicken a try and the Earth's Best and see which ones we like.

We use the Costco brand for chicken. Yes $5.99 isn't that awesome of a deal but it is the cheapest around. Their thighs are $3.99 and their whole chickens are $2.99. Lately all I get is the whole chicken. They are cheaper and I can get more use out of it.

Thanks. I'm curious, how do you prepare the whole chicken? Roast in oven? Do you marinate or anything? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol

Re: organic chicken and nuggets
Whole foods sells the organic chicken in bulk, I usually buy that ans freeze it. I don't recall the price per pound at the moment. ' You can make your own chicken nuggets, that's what I do. The bell and evans ones are good but they are really expensive.

Actually I generally cut it up into 8 pieces - 2 legs, 2 thighs, 2 wings and 2 breasts. I use the bones and innards to make broth. If I am feeling particularly lazy I will grill chicken on a beer can.
