Advice needed. DS scared to sleep in crib.
DS just turned 2 last month. He never had a Problem sleeping in his crib. Up until Friday night he would actually get excited when it was nap time or bed time. Last week my dad came to visit and put DS in time out 2 times in his room. When I found out I told him not to use his bedroom for a time out. Now DS is scared to sleep in his crib. Friday he went in fine. We went away over the weekend and Monday night he started screaming hysterical and climbed out. I don't know what to do now. During the day we've been playing with him in his room and trying to make a big deal about being a big boy and staying in his room. He keeps saying he's scared. I've been laying down with him until he falls asleep then putting him in his crib. But I don't want him to get used to that. Any advice Is appreciated! Thanks

Re: Advice needed. DS scared to sleep in crib.
We just went through the same thing with DS who will be 2 in Sept.
He slept like a bear in his crib and then all of a sudden, he hated it!! He would scream, cry, try getting out and waking up several times during the night. We moved him to a toddler bed at that point, since I was afraid of him climbing out and falling.
He loves his Bed and thinks it's the coolest thing in the world, but he would not go to sleep unless one of us would lay on the floor next to him until he fell asleep. It was a very bad habit and we knew it had to end..sometimes we were in there for 10 mins and others an hour before he would actually pass out.
Unfortunatly and I knew it had to be done, just this past weekend I did CIO. I knew he said he was scared, but in the same breath...he loved his bed, he loves his room and I knew it was not the dark so I figured it was just a habit we had to break. It took 1 night!!!! We said goodnight and he pointed and said "Mommy sit down" meaning coming lay on the floor and I refused to do it, I kissed him goodnight and closed the door...he freaked, cried, like I knew he would but 10 min's later he was back in his bed and passed out on his own He woke up once during the night and again, we did not go in there and after only a minute, he was quiet and back sleeping.
The second night we got a 5 mins cry and every since, he climbs into bed, gives us kisses and we close the door without a peep!!!

Re: Advice needed. DS scared to sleep in crib.
It's ironic ou say this bc my DS who was 2 in July just started this Tuesday night. He absolutely loves his bedtime & toddler bed but all of. Sudden he's afraid. My family was here this weekend & since they left, he won't sleep in there. We use to put him in wide awake with no issues & I know nothing happened while we had company.
The past 2 nights he asked to go to bed but as soon as we got to the top of the stairs, he says no & scream & goes back downstairs. Hubby & I brought him up & let him play but as soon as we said night night, he beelined for the door. Hubby even put him in, tucked him in & shut the door but he came running out screaming. We ended up letting him fall asleep on the couch & then transferred him. I know it's not a good habit but I'm thinking it's an age thing.

Re: Advice needed. DS scared to sleep in crib.
It must be the age - DS will be 2 next week and out of nowhere this past weekend, he started to go crazy when we put him in there.
I made the mistake of climbing in there with him on the 2nd night because he was in such a state of hysterics, I couldn't get him to calm down.
He was crying so hard that he was starting to gag - I couldn't let him CIO. So I climbed in with him - he stopped dead in his tracks, cuddled up next to me and passed out within 15 minutes.
The next night THE SAME thing. Only this time he kept crying out for me and screaming "Mommy come in to" over and over. Again, I climbed in, he stopped crying and passed out.
This has been going on every night...I'm not sure what to do. I know I have to let him CIO but he makes himsef turn blue from crying so hard and I can't stand to see him like that.
