Re: anyone take topamax for migraines?
It's funny because in reading some of the listed side effects of that drug- they sound very similar to the symptoms of my migarines (numbness, confusion, difficultly with words) and the kicker- one of the side effects is HEADACHES. Hmmm.....
Anyway- a lot of these migraine drugs scare the crapola out of me to be honest. The side effects seem to be worse than the migraines!

Having tried a lot of different migraine meds I agree with you...the side effects can be very scary. They often get rid of the pain but leave you with a new issue.

Relpax is an acute medication that is only taken when you feel a headache coming on. Topamax is a preventative medication often given to people who have very frequent headaches. Most insurance companies only cover 9 pills of relpax a month.

Re: anyone take topamax for migraines?
I took it for over a year. I was on a TINY dose because i was so dopey from it every morning. Food, esp soda tasted crappy. I did have memory issues.
I went to a new neurologist who felt I wasn't on a therapeutic dose so it was a waste. he got me completely off topamax with a vitamin regimen. My migraines are sooo much better I take imitrex and mobic for acute attacks.
The vitamins have helped me SOOO much with none of the nasty side effects of topomax. I'd recommend them and my doctor to anyone!

Re: anyone take topamax for migraines?
My mother gets terrible migraines and has even been hospitalized for it. She swears by Maxalt which 90% of the time knocks it out in an hour or less.

anyone take topamax for migraines?
I have taken topomax for several years and it has been my saving grace. I was taken off of it 6 months before trying to conceive and throughout my pregnancy and my head has been a wreck since. I had very mild side effects for only a few wks upon starting the medication which paled in comparison to the debilitating chronic migraines that I suffer from. HTH

Re: anyone take topamax for migraines?
I've been on Topamax for a little over 3 years now, I take 100mg, it's definitely a life saver. The only side affect I get from it is that it does affect my short term memory, but that's it. I also take maxalt for when I feel a migraine coming on.

Would you mind sharing what kind of vitamins you take? I really think in the case of my migraines a natural route is best. TIA!

Same here, though I've been taking it for over 6 years (minus when pg). I also take Reglan for the nausea. The Topamax helps prevent migraines but I still do get them, just not AS frequently. Just getting kind of nervous about the memory thing...

Re: anyone take topamax for migraines?
I had a horrible experience and was on it for a few years. I'm so glad I don't take it anymore. My doctor said that there may be a lot of lasting side effects and refuses to prescribe it anymore.
