If you find out that someone has planned a surprise for you, (i.e a surprise party) before you were supposed to, do you still prentend to be surprised or do you let them know that you knew about it (either before the surprise or afterward)? Its hard to fake being surprised, but I hate to ruin it for the person that worked so hard at planning the surprise. If this has ever happened to you, what have you done or what would you do?

Did you ever wind up telling anyone that you knew about the parties before hand?

Re: Surprises

For my bridal shower I found out. Til this day my mother does not know I knew. She thinks she pulled off the greatest surprise in history because I am never surprised, I always find out. I secretly giggle every time she says this but seeing her so happy that she "pulled it off" makes me happy. I wouldn't ruin that for her!

Re: Surprises

I had someone deliberately ruin a surprise for me. Chat Icon I still acted surprised the day of...I didn't want to ruin it for the people that planned it.

I did tell my best friend, who was part of the planners and she would never tell my family members who were involved with planning.

Re: Surprises

I still act surprised.

I found out about my bridal shower beforehand thanks to the sweet old men who run the VFW who called me to ask how I enjoyed my party. I never let DH or my family and friends know that I already knew about it. I acted completely surprised and to this day, they don't know that I already knew about it. I figure - why burst their bubble. Chat Icon

I am not good at the faking surprised thing so I didn't really bother pretending. That said, I would try not to let anyone know you found out. Both my mom who planned the party and the person who led to me finding out were upset which I felt bad about.

Another possibility, years ago a relative found out about her surprise party. She acted totally surprised and then immediate pulled out thank you notes and proceeded to hand them out to each guest! It was pretty amusing!

Re: Surprises

Never had a surprise party but I would prob take the selfish route and tell the person I know rather than try to fake being surprised.

Re: Surprises

I've had 2 surprise parties 1 was my 30th b-day and the other was my bridal shower. I figured both of them out just based on the way ppl were acting leading up to the event. I acted surprised on both occasions. I didn't have the heart to disappoint those that worked so hard to plan such wonderful events for me.
