Anyone good with allergies? (Red Dye allergy)

I know this is silly, but for my son's birthday party I have Peanut M&M's as part of a favor inside an M&M machine. My son's best little buddy cannot have red dye..is there an alternative that I could use in the machine for this little guy. I hate to give him something he can't haveChat Icon

Thanks for any ideas..I really don't know...

Rather than driving yourself nuts, I'd ask his mom for a suggestion. My DS has food allergies and if I can't read the label on the specific bag it came out of it gets tossed. Actually, if it's not in it's original bag at all it gets tossed, out of a concern for cross contamination.

I just texted the Mom..I just don't want to give the poor kid something he can't have..if she suggested it, then maybe she will be comfortable. And for him, I will not put into machine, but just leave it in its package (good idea..thanks!)

Ahh..the Malt Balls would be PERFECT!! Of course party is tomorrow, and I just thought of this. I wonder if regular malt balls have dye (haven't heard back from the mom yet)

Yes, for this boy it is also not an allergy in the anaphylactic sense, but for behavioral issues...so they avoid at all costs!

You are such a great friend. We have the same issue in our family. Why not give ALL the kids Sundrops by Sunpire. Looks just like M & Ms without the artificial dyes, flavors, etc. There's also a new candy out there (I heard CVC (?) carries it called Unreal Candy: http://getunreal.com/unreal-candy/

BTW, it's not just red, it's all the synthetic dyes & the mom may not know that. Bothers all kids - some just show it more.

They also have at Whole Foods- candy coated chocolate - I think they are called Sunburst- They look like plain M&Ms - orange yellow and brown.

oh, make sure you check labels at Trader Joes - they defintely have dye free candy but not all their candy is dye free.

Most malt balls would have vanillin - those with dye issues would avoid it too.
