I roast garlic cloves until they are soft, mash them up and put them into the milk I will be using in the potatoes. I'll warm this mixture before adding to the potatoes.
Then I make the mashed potatoes as usual - milk, butter, salt and if I have it, a spoonful of sour cream.

Yummmm... that sounds amazing.
How many cloves vs potatoes do you use?
I have to make enough for 12 people and I am SO bad at figuring out that kind of thing.
I was figuring 1 large potato per person so 12. Would you use maybe 8 cloves of garlic?

Go to foodnetwork.com and look up Alton Brown's recipe for garlic mashed potatoes. It could not be any easier and they are sooooo good!

I like really garlicky mashed potatoes. Not a fan of plain at all. I use a whole head for about 4-6 people.

I use 2 years of garlic for 3 lbs of potatos. Cut the tops off, rub the cut surface with olive oil, wrap in foil, bake for 45-60 min, squeeze into potatos and mash as usual
