Disney in August
My husband and I are teachers and can only go away on school vacations. We are thinking of going at the end if the summer to avoid that. Does anyone have any experience with going to Disney at the end of August. Our DC's will be 5 and 7. Is the heat unbearable? TIA!

Its my favorite time to go! Its hot, but we never find it unbearable. Its not crowded and you can really get to everything in the parks easily.

Disney in August
Hot hot hot! Bring mister fans and take breaks. No lines, so it's a good time, and take advantage of the awesome waterparks and pools!

Disney in August
Im a teacher too.... We went last August and it not as bad as I thought. The crowds were not as bad as school vacations. We did take afternoon breaks at the hotel for the pool and DS for nap. We went 8/19-24 last year.
You can look at crowd predictors at www.undercovertourist.com. It's where we also get our tix discounted. We are headed again in February. Hoping crowds not bad since vacations were canceled w schools.

Re: Disney in August
We've done Disney in August as well. I would go at Rope Drop and get Fastpasses for the rides you want, or get the first reservation of the day before the park opens so you can eat and get into the park first. Then I would aim to be done by about 1 pm, and take the monorail or boat back to an on-site hotel. Remember to get your hand stamped and then go back at about 3:30 pm and stay in the park until about 8 or 9. This way you avoid the high heat, and the majority of the crowds. I would go swim in the hotel pool in the middle of the day and load up on sun screen and cover ups.
I really loved the Wilderness Lodge. I would also look into the Poly as it is about the same price point but also on the monorail but not as expensive as the Contemporary.

Re: Disney in August
It really depends on how well your family tolerates the heat because it will be hot. Me personally, I can't stand the heat. I went once in July and will never ever ever do summer again. But if the heat doesn't faze you then it's probably a good time to go.

Re: Disney in August
It's INSANELY hot and it can be quite crowded with everyone getting their last minute summer vacations in. Personally, I despise FL and Disney in the summer, we lived down there for four years and I avoided the parks like the plague. Unfortunately, even if you pick another time of year that's cooler you will always be contending with crowds since you have to go on the school breaks. But crowds are more tolerable IMO when it's not 100 degrees outside.

Re: Disney in August
We went the second week in Aug and it was hot and rained a ton but we had the time of our lives! I actually loved that it was so hot bc we spent so much time in the pools and the wading river in typhoon lagoon. Busy but not busier than when I went in march.

Disney in August
Couldn't pay me to go in the summer!
Just try to stay cool and buy those fans that mist cold water on you before you go.

ITA with all of this. this is how we do it when we go. we get to the park right at opening and leave by 12 or 1..head back to the hotel for naptime or a swim and go back to the parks at night. works out well. i'm a teacher and don't have much choice when to go either. i've gone a bunch of times in july or august and while it's hot i didn't think it was horrible.

Re: Disney in August
I just went the 2nd to last week in August with my DH 2 Ds's (age 5 and 7) and DD (18mos). It was insanely crowded and very hot but we still had an awesome time. I have gone to disney like 5 times now and the only time we went in summer time. We are a little disney nutty and usually do a lot in one day (leave early, no breaks, stay til dinner or later). It wasn't our intention to go the week we went (originally planned on May but our daughter broke her arm and this was the only week our schedules would allow us to go and not lose our money). We wound up going more days than we normally would and took it easier. We didn't do all out everyday. We went back a few days by 2-3pm and hung out by the pool. We also had a lot more planned sit down lunches than we nromally do to break up the day. We used fast pass to the best we could and broke up the heat by doing indoor rides/shows we don't normally do to cool off. It was fun - not my favorite time to go but it didn't stop anything and I would go again in August. Dress cool and light and take it easy and you'll be fine (unless you really can't take the heat). I did have a double stroller which my 5 yr old used a lot. We even one day rented one for the 7 year old (but he barely fit because we felt so bad the heat was so bad one day (although a waste for him since he barely fit and it was hard to steer - lol). It was high 80/low 90's everyday with very high humidity. It rained 2 of 7 days. 1 day it was short lived maybe an hour or two but made my kids Jedi training get rained out (one session of the day did and it was my boys session - luckily we went back another day and got in a new session - highly recommend for 2 boys although that was the hottest I was the whole trip - it was in full sun!!). Only really ruined 1 day...but we were in Epcot doing the countries at the time it downpoured - not even pnocho type rain where you can walk around - storm rain. I think my kids were excited as they hate the countires - lol!

Re: Disney in August
I went around 7 years ago in August and I nearly died from the heat. It was so unbearable. I also found it to be crowded. I was teaching at the time and thought it would be good to go then. I had no idea how hot it would be. Went back 4 years ago in Feb. and it was a world of a difference.

Re: Disney in August
I have gone many times in the summer. Is it the best time of year to go? Not really. Is it hot? Of course it is. Is it manageable? Most definitely. And if you go the last week, southern schools are back in session and its a little less crowded.
