What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
DS turned 5 in September and I still give him a shower. Is this weird? He still feels like my baby.
Anyway, I know he could wash his body alone and rinse. Not sure about his hair... and how would I know if he REALLY got every crevice and rinsed thoroughly?
What do you guys do?

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
My DS will soon be 7 and I set the water temp and shut off the water when he is done. He is capable of thoroughly washing so I don't need to be in there for that part. I still towel him off so I know if all body parts are hit, lol.
I think 5 is young IMO but each child is different. I could never let my 5 yr DD bath alone in the shower or bath. But boys are easier than girls.

My DS age 6.5 showers alone. I set the water temp and help him step out (we have a jacuzzi tub) DD 8.5 has been showering alone for about a year now. I will admit she doesn't do such a great job with getting all the soap out of her hair. I often have to help her.

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
My DD showers pretty much on her own. I turn the water on and off, and I put the shampoo and condition in and I help make sure she gets it all out but she has very long hair so I think it is harder on her. I can't see me stopping those things too soon. She washes herself aside from that. I do the same with my 3.5 year old BUT she is VERY independent and wouldn't let me do more than her hair if I wanted to. She does a good job when I watch her.

DS is 6 and I set the water temp for him and I put the shampoo and soap in reach for him. I just pop my head in every couple of minutes to see if he is ok.

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
I just asked this recently on parenting and didn't get many replies! I am glad you asked. I also wonder the same, my DD is 4 and I still bathe her, and have to apply cream or powder b/c she has sensitive skin and gets rashes often.

I would like to ask, what age did your DD start to fully wash herself on her own? I feel like I am babying my 4 year old by still bathing her myself. But she could never get clean enough especially her private area and I have to powder her still or apply aquaphor at times.

DS is 5.5 and he showers himself. I turn the water on, and help him with the shampoo but otherwise he does it himself. he turns the water off and gets out on his own.

DD is 5 and she showers by herself. I try to be there when she rinses her hair bc sometimes she doesnt get all the soap out, but otherwise she does a great job.

Both girls by 6 yo. However, they "regress" at times and either ask to take a bath or need help with turning water on/off, rinsing hair, etc.

My son is also 5 (a month older than your DS). I turn on/off the water for him and give him the soap to wash himself. I wash his hair. I also instruct him - i.e. wash your belly, wash your legs. I do wash his back and rinse him off. I can see myself helping with less and less involvement until he is about 7, at which point I would expect him to be self sufficient in the shower/bath.

My DD is 5 1/2. I start the shower for her (get it to the right temp), she plays for a bit (she would stay in there forever if I let her!), I soap up the loofah for her and she washes herself, I lather her hair and she rinses it, then she plays a little more, and then she turns off the water herself and gets out.

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
My DD starting taking showers by herself at about 5 1/2. She's now 6 1/2, but I still have to help I turn the water on then go back in and put the shampoo in after she applied and rinsed the soap off. She then washes shampoo out herself and I go back in to apply conditioner. She washes it out, turns the water off and gets out and I help dry her off.

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
DS is 6..
I usually~ --set the water --leave him alone to wet himself and play --I come in and put the shampoo and clean his hair-- he needs Tgel bc of dry scalp and I don't trust him getting it in his eyes. --give him the soap and he scrubs.. I make sure to go over tush and feet after lol Let him rinse and play for a while. Not ready to give him 100% alone time just yet.

So I guess I can start to let him practice while I supervise for now. I'm glad to see alot of moms of this age group still are helping a little at least.

I control the temp.in the beginning but then she's on her own. She's 8, started at 6. My 4yr. old showers with her. I do her hair otherwise she's also on her own. They come out and dry off then get into pjs.i dry their hair

he can soap himself up and all that...but he is a lazy boy with a ton of freaking hair-it will be years before he can really lather that mop up

My DD is 8 1/2. I set temp and rinse her hair because it's long.
DS is 4. I set water and wash his hair.

DD is 6 1/2. She has been bathing herself for about 6 months. I run the bath and she does everything else. Once in awhile I will wash her hair for her because i don't know how good a job she does. Oh and I brush her hair when she is done.

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
My boys shower themselves (ages 5 and almost 8) most everyday (here and ther eDH or I may wash them - if sick or they are cranky and overtired). I do often turn on and off the water (the older one is fully capable of doing so himself). I may remind here and there the body parts that are often missed (like under the neck and their ears).

One DC was 5 when I let said DC shower alone. I would check on DC but didn't monitor the entire time. I did start the water though.

DS will be 5 in 2 weeks and still LOVES his bath. I tell him what to wash or else he'd just play. I wash his hair. He actually freaks out if I put the shower on while he's in the bathroom.
At his Dad's, I'm pretty sure they let him take a shower by himself. Not 100% sure.
I have to admit, I'm surprised so many kids take showers (only b/c DS likes his baths).

Re: What age do/did you let your DC bathe 100% alone
My DD is 6.5 and she still takes a bath. DH or I are there the entire time, supervising. Probably b/c she takes the bath with DD who is 3. A few times I've tried giving her a shower and I have to coach her on what to do, and I have to do her hair for her, as she doesn't get it all or rinse it well when she does it on her own. I'm going to start trying to transition her to showering on her own soon, but I know I will have to be helping her with her hair for a while, unless I cut it short!
