Smell of cooking: anyone else has this problem?

I cook a lot and the entrance to our apartment is pretty close to the kitchen, so the first thing you are greeted with is a strong smell of whatever it was I cooked last. It's a nice smell of good food, but I still find it really annoying. I feel like the smell lingers on until it's time to cook the next meal nd then it just gets replaced by the new smell. I just want it to smell like a clean apartment, not like a kitchen.

Is there any way around it? Should I use the fan over the stove more often? I almost never turn it on. Anyone has any tricks to get rid of constant cooking smell?

Open all your windows? I open them in the mornings for fresh air and in the afternoons. I also leave them open when I cook.

I got a complaint from my neighbour that I use too much garlic (sensitive German noses), so I do that all the time now.

I'd sugggest opening a window after your done cooking. An air freshener or candle might also help get the smell out.

I always light a candle when I am done cooking.

Especially the strong ones from Yankee or BBW.

I've also simmered herbs and spices on the stove.

A few weeks ago, someone posted a good recipe.

I think it included vanilla, rosemary and lemon.

Lemon scented candles help with getting rid of food smells.

Try a bowl or two of white vinegar on the counter...

Using the fan helps...sometimes the cooking smells and grease get caught under the hood and linger.

Put a pot on the stove with water and some lemon, orange or limes slices....and let it simmer. That will take the oder away. Also, cleaning the fan filter will help. THere are a few great tips on Pinterest on cleaning your fan filter.

When I bought a new vent fan for our kitchen, I was told to turn it on about half an hour before cooking, and leave it on well after you're done. You want to get an air current going, so all of the grease, smells, etc only go out of the house.

Do you have a fan that exhausts outside, or just recirculates the air? If it just recirculates the air, it's not going to get rid of the smells.
