Yup. Always have and always will. I honestly never heard of not tipping an owner until LIF.

The person who cuts my hair is not the owner BUT I've had the owner of my nail salon do my nails and I always tip her the same amount I tip the other girls.

I would tip them. I think the only way I wouldn't tip is if someone is running a hair salon out of their home.

Yes. I tip regardless who cuts my hair. The owner would get the same tip anyone else would. They are the owner, but they are still providing a service to you.

I always make the attempt but most owners I have come across will not accept it. I think it is in poor taste for the owner (of any business) to accept tips.

She still has to pay the rent and make a living.
If she owns the salon, the profits are hers 100%. She sets the prices. She is not working under someone who takes the majority of what someone pays for a cut. If she isn't making enough to pay the rent and support a living, she should increase her fees. I don't tip owners of anything.

I give $5 to the shampoo girl and $10 to the woman who cuts my hair. She is the owner. A hair cut costs $50 for me before tips. I give the same tips when she cuts my DDs hair, but her hair cut is $25.

Tipping is based on good service. I don't care if you are the owner or not. If you do a good job, you deserve a tip.

The place I go charges more for a haircut with an owner. In return you are told not to tip an owner AND they will not accept a tip if you try.

I don't tip the owner, I give the person who washes (and sometimes will assist with drying) my hair the 20% as he/she is usually the latest trainee he is about to hire permanently...

this was my understanding too. my old place had this policy, but i go somewhere else now, and the owner charges the same as everyone else. she gets a tip. if i pay more for the owner i figure the tip is being built into the price.
