Re: help with diaper rash!
I like what everyone else said about airing out, frequent diaper changes and any diaper creme with a high level of zinc in it.
But if all else fails my friend swears by coconut oil. Her DD was in prescription strength cream and nothing worked until she tried the coconut oil!

Re: help with diaper rash!
I use senstive wipes that are unscented. Unscented baby wash. The Dr. gave us a sample of baby aquaphor so we've been using that. And A+D ointment with every diaper change. Anything for sensitive skin.

Re: help with diaper rash!
I agree with letting it dry before putting a new diaper back on. A bath really helps too.
But what I do, which I really think is like magic, is mix aquaphor with cherry maalox (not the mint because it will burn) and apply it generously. DD would have the worst rash, bleeding and all, and would be absolutely clear in the morning. Good luck, I know its the worst feeling to see them in pain

Re: help with diaper rash!
Ok, I know I am the only one who has had success with this but when DD had a really bad diaper rash for weeks the ONLY thing that cleared it up was just baby powder. No creams. I tried everything. Even now the only thing I use is powder and she almost never has a rash.
I am aware that no one else has had this experience with powder, even my Ped was surprised that creams didn't work. But if nothing else is working it might be worth a shot.

Re: help with diaper rash!
I agree to bring him to the ped. He may need a prescription anti fungal or other type of cream. I learned this the hard way myself. My poor DS was suffering for a month, i tried all the OTC creams before I took him in. It turned out to be fungal and Nystatin cleared it right up.

help with diaper rash!
Baby powder does a really good job of keeping the bottom dry. When DS had a diaper rash as an infant the doctor suggested using warm washclothes to clean bottom with just water, pat dry with another wash cloth, baby powder to dry it even more and then pediatrician gave us some prescription ointment and had us put desitin (creamy) not the purple max strength one bc it will irritate the area more and hard to remove. You need to be able to clean the area fully with each diaper change.
