BFing when I have a fever?
The ped just told me I should stop because I could expose her to the virus. She is almost 1 yo. But I've read that you should continue because she gets antibodies thru the milk. I'm so confused.
What do you think?

I've always BFed through any sickness I've had and my kids never got sick. Your ped's advice makes no sense.

BFing when I have a fever?
Yeah, weird that he would suggest that. I was just sick and continued nursing. DD has been fine.

Re: BFing when I have a fever?
keep nursing. I have found that Dr's say a lot of things just to cover their buts.
If it were 300 years ago, there would not have been another option. Your milk will help protect the baby, that is how nature designed it. Obviously, be very diligent about washing hands etc. and hope you feel better...

BFing when I have a fever?
That is weird. Mine told me to continue nursing when I got sick with a fever.
Even in Dr Sears book he states to continue nursing as well.

Most peds are clueless when it comes to BF. I never stopped because I was sick.

Re: BFing when I have a fever?
That is the worst advice your ped gave you. It baffles me. Keep on BFing your DC.

Totally agree. BFing will help keep your baby from getting sick! Your ped doesn't have a clue.

BFing when I have a fever?
Last week I was really sick and I'm pretty sure I had a fever for a day or two. I kept BFing and dd never got sick. I'm surprised your ped suggested that. Once you have symptoms you've already exposed your child to the virus, so you might as well keep BFing to pass antibodies on to your baby. Of course if your on antibiotics or medication for it, that might be a different story.

That's what I thought. I'm going to talk to the doc next time I'm there.

Re: BFing when I have a fever?
ITA and kellymom is such a great resource for BF mamas. I find that so many pediatricians are so uninformed when it comes to BFing, it's so annoying!

BFing when I have a fever?
Def keep BF'ing! Baby gets antibodies & if u stop feeding DC ur milk supply willl plummet(also be careful if u r on any meds bc some dry up milk as well; be sure to tell any dr prescribing you meds that u r BF'ing)

I agree and by the time you have any symptoms (a fever) LO has already been exposed to the virus.

Re: BFing when I have a fever?
I continued to BF DS when I had a fever and he never got the fever. I even nursed him when I had a stomach bug and he didn't catch that either. Breast milk is supposed to be sterile and antiseptic. I just made sure to wash my hands and not expose DS to any other bodily fluids such as mucus and saliva when I was sick.
