Questions on Nassau Univeristy Med Center
Hi lades,
I'm only researching at this point as DS is only 5 months old but the hubby and I are talking about not waiting too much longer for baby2 and I wanted to do my research now.
I had DS at North Shore Manhassett, so spoiled from that. For various reasons I started to consider using Gaia midwives and going to the Nassau University Medical Center birthing tubs-I'm not usually a person who goes for things like that, I like my Dr and her group, so I'm nervous but from my research it's my best chance on avoiding a c-section and lowering my chances of tearing again- I had a 4th degree with DS. I'm not anti interventions or c-sections but I'd like to avoid it if possible. Add to that my Ped doesn't have privileges at NUMC and I'm really not sure about it!
On their site, and the Gaia midwives site, they talk about a renovation in 2012. But no pictures, I can't find posts on it. So this is a multi-part question:
1- Has anyone seen/heard anything about NUMC new labor/delivery area?
2-I see NUMC has the lowest c-sec rate in the area- but that's not entirely fair since a hosp that specializes in high-risk will do more c-sec. Other than that how is their reputation? Compared to North Shore Man? Compared to Winthrop?
3- Anyone do a water birth? How was it?
4- Do the babies stay with you the entire time at NUMC? How willing are they to take the baby to the nursery if you need the rest?
Thanks in advance! Sorry for the long post.

I know going with midwives you have a lower chance of a csection. As far as NUMC my friend delivered there in 09 and she loved it. I didn't visit her there or anything but I did do my clinical work there when I was in nursing school. That was a while back 18 years ago and it crap then but in 09 she said it was wonderful so I guess it may be great now with renovations.

Re: Questions on Nassau Univeristy Med Center
They did renovate L&D and Maternity floor in 2012. It is quite impressive! I work in another area of the hospital and was blown away when I had to go there one day!
