Help Please. . . taking infant to a visit.

I have a dying family member that I want to visit. He’s currently in a healthcare facility that is approximately an hour away. I have a 4 month old and was thinking of taking him with me since I have no one to leave him with. Do you think it’s a bad idea? A couple of people have told me it is. I would just feel guilty not putting any effort into seeing my family; however I don’t want to do something that will harm my child either.
The facility does allow babies to visit. What would you do?

If they wont allow babies to visit, how are you going to do this if you have no one to watch your baby? I totally understand that you want to see your family member but I would try your best to have someone watch your little one at that time.

It’s because he’s in a facility with sick/dying people. I was told it was a bad idea because my baby may catch something and get sick.

I would take him. Just make sure the baby is in the stroller & not touching anything. When you leave make sure to wash your hands. I think you will regret not going if you don't.

As long as the nurses say its safe to bring the baby then bring him! As always I would just be super cautious with hand hygiene and things you touch.

Personally, I wouldn't bring a baby to a healthcare facility. Is this a VERY close family member that you feel your child *must* see before they pass? I'm overly cautious and I really lean towards not bringing a baby or young child to these type of settings. There can be a lot going around them. Also, I'd make sure you wash well after visiting so you don't pass anything along.

I would definitely go and just leave LO in the infant carseat.
I think it will also cheer up your relative if you bring the baby.

I would bring DC. I took my 2 month old DS to visit my grandfather in the rehab center he was in. I just made sure nobody touched him or got too close.

When DD was about 2 months my grandmother spent a few weeks in a hospital and then rehab. Everyone, including the nurses, said I shouldn't bring her. I didn't bring her but I did arrange for my mom to skype with us while she was there for a visit.

I worked in a Nursing home and I took DS to visit. Keep the baby in the infant carrier and bring in the stroller. Lay a blanket over the hands/feet so they won't be touched. Plenty of people bring babies to nursing homes/ last stage homes. It's actually very heartwarming to see the people get excited to just catch a glimpse of a new baby. I say go!

Take the baby... It will cheer up your relative, and no harm to baby (too young to appreciate any of it), just don't allow anyone to touch baby (wear him or keep him in babyseat with hands and feet covered).

depends on the healthcare facility. I would not take DS to a hospital but i would take him to a long term care facility if that is where it is?
