Synthroid/Hypothyroidism
Hello! I am currently pregnant and have been on synthroid for about 4-5 years for hypothyroidism. My levels have been great and my dr monitors them even more closely now that I'm pregnant. A co-worker mentioned today that she has heard there could be a correlation between synthroid/hypothyroidism during pregnancy and autism. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Re: Synthroid/Hypothyroidism
I was on synthroid for years before, during and after my pregnancy. My DS is 2 now and healthy, healthy, healthy. Just keep a close monitor on your levels, you'll be great. Good luck!

Never heard that before, I was put on synthroid about 5 months before my pregnancy and I am still on it. My girls will be 2 soon.

Re: Synthroid/Hypothyroidism
never heard this before...however, the reason why it is so important to be monitored closely with hypothyroidism is because if your levels are not controlled, it could effect the babies brain development...that's a fact ..I'm wondering, if she is confusing that with the autism connection.

Re: Synthroid/Hypothyroidism
No, but if you don't treat hypothyroidism during pregnancy, your child runs a higher risk for learning disabilities. I was diagnosed at 19 weeks pregnant. I took levothyroxine throughout my pregnancy (generic synthroid). My now 3 year old DD is as smart as a whip, if I do say so myself!
