Opinions on timing of birthday party
My son was invited to the birthday party of a classmate (pre-k). The party is from 6:30-8pm. Does anyone else think that this is kind of late for a 5 yr olds bday party? I know older kids will probably be there too, but the whole class (18 kids) was also invited and they are all 4-5 yrs old. I was going to rsvp "no" to the party simply because of the late hour, but now feel bad, so I wanted some outside opinions. My son still goes to bed at 7pm, so he would obviously be up way past his bedtime if he was to go to the party. Thoughts?

It is pretty late.. but I'm thinking it just might be the best time they could come up with to accommodate their working schedule or whatever. I have gone to late parties - and early ones. The time only dictates my response when it is in direct conflict to my personal schedule - during work or school or when I have another event.
Personally - I would go, but if you feel it's too late for your child then you should not feel guilty responding no.

I wouldn't bail out of a party if it meant my kid was only up an hour past his bedtime.
Only you know your kid & if you don't want to deal with a cranky kid getting up for school, then decline. I don't think it's too late if it's on the weekend.

It's at one of those bounce house places, on the friday before memorial day weekend. I'm so on the fence about it.

Since there is no school the next day, I wouldn't even think twice about it, and that is probably why they booked a later party. Even if it was during the week, I would go, but we are not sticklers on bed time.

While the time isn't my personal preference, I find it very common. At least they did it on a Friday/holiday weekend, I have been invited to some mid-week. I think it is totally up to you and how your child could handle it. With a 7pm normal bedtime - it could be a rough night for you and your child.

It's no a school night so I would be fine with it. We have even gone to school events during the weeks that end around that time so I wouldn't have a big issue with it.

We have a 5 year old swim party this weekend (6-8) and actually would have had another (5:30-7) that we obviously had to say no to! My son goes to bed later and since its a Saturday, I don't mind. I would have thought it was odd if it was a weeknight. The mom said that was the only time available.

My DC at 4 or 5 were up until 8:30-9 anyway, but if it doesn't work for your kid, then it doesn't. If you think all will be fine should your DC be out past their bedtime just one night, then go for it. If you have a DC who needs their schedule and it will negatively affect them to be out that late, then RSVP no and do not feel bad about it.

Thanks everyone for the opinions. I know a lot of kids his age go to bed later than he does, so for most it wouldn't be an issue. Trouble is, he is up by 6am and doesn't ever nap, so by 7pm he is definitely ready for bed. But, I'm leaning towards taking him and just seeing how it goes, especially since it is a long weekend.

You can always leave the party early if he is really tired. They probably booked the party late and it was the only slot left. Maybe they work and their kids go to bed much later.
Do what is easiest for you.

I don't think it is that strange because it is a Friday night (of a long weekend too). It becomes dinner at least.
Maybe the parents work? That time would be easier for them?

We've been invited to parties that run that late (my DS is 5.5). As long as it was a friday or saturday night I wouldn't think twice about it. Most of DS's friends go to bed between 8 and 9.

I actually love friday evening parties and Im thinking these parents did it so as not to take away anyone's holiday weekend days. The kids are fed and so tired they just conk right out on the way home!
