When to tell people?

Just wondering....went out to see family yesterday for a mothers day brunch....got questions from a few - then went to meet my dad and stepmom for dinner and my brother asked my husband if I was preggo - did anyone else lie and say they were not expecting? We are 12 weeks but we are still waiting for the testing results from the Mater21 to come in - plus I really dont want to say anything to anyone at all......Hmmm What did any of you do?

Re: When to tell people?

We told our parents and siblings at 6 weeks.

I'm 12 weeks today, if all goes well at my appointment tomorrow we will tell our families this week.

Re: When to tell people?

We told my mom after we heard the HB at the 6w appt. We told MIL and SIL around 9/10w. DH and I told one or two friends around that time too just to have someone to talk to about this stuff. We came out to family and friends after I was out of my 1st trimester. We came out on fb at 20w after we found out the gender and the results of the anatomy scan.

Apparently I looked like crap my first trimester and that's how everyone figured it out. That and the fact that DH kept smiling over nothing lol. No one every said anything to us.

I think this might be cultural too. When I went to get my flu shot at 5w my primary, who is Indian, asked if I was going to do the cultural thing and not tell anyone till the 2nd trimester.

When to tell people?

My MIL and I were having a conversation the other day about where we are going to put DS when we move to our new house. I said I want to start him upstairs and leave the room next to ours as a nursery. I didn't want DS traumatized by the move, plus the move to a big boy bed and then moving out of the room in favor of a baby.
My MIL said "Well you have 9 months at least before that!" And I replied ".... at least."

Chat Icon Even though it's more like 6 months now...
But she now knows as we told everyone yesterday.
Even though I'll be 14 weeks this week, I still don't feel this urge to tell everyone else. I'm trying to avoid telling work as long as possible but I know I'll have to tell my boss soon.

We told our parents and siblings last week around 7/8 weeks. We don't plan on telling anyone else until 12 weeks.

Re: When to tell people?

It all depends on what you're comfortable with. After many losses, my preference was to wait until he gets here to announce! Obviously we can't do that Chat Icon .. I told my side of the family at 14wks since we were seeing them for some holiday .. and then DH's family it was another holiday at 18wks. At the 14wk point when we told my family, I was already showing, otherwise I probably would have kept it quiet even a little longer. My aunt guessed as soon as I walked in the room.

We went through so much to get here .. I really think it varies for everyone what people feel comfortable with.

When to tell people?

My parents: 3 weeks (right after I took a bunch of BFPs, my mom works for my doctors and my dad is a business rep for the union we're in and we had some questions he needed to find out answers for)
DH's parents: 6 weeks (I had hyperemesis and it was hard to hide with them living with us after the hurricane)
My older sister: Actually a few hours before I even told DH. She's an OB and we had a trip to Mexico planned and didn't know what I should do about cancelling it or now...we were leaving a week later so it was time sensitive.
My younger sister: 6 weeks, she came to the apartment after my mom was staying with us during the hurricane and decided everyone else knew in my family
DH's sister & brother in law: 7 weeks...we saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks at the hospital after I was too dehydrated. We needed to tell immediate family because I was SO sick and their daughters Christening was coming up.

Close friends and family: 8-12 weeks
FB: 13.5 weeks...after the NT scan

When to tell people?

I told my Mom, Dad sis and BFF the day I found out I had a BFP. Everyone else will find out when we are 12 weeks except my brother who I will tell next week and probably two of my other close friends who I will also tell next week.

Same here. My immediate family knew we were "trying" (cycling) and kept asking and I didn't want to confirm anything given our history... My MIL kept asking and I kept telling her we'd tell her when we knew something...
We didn't tell my brothers kids until around 14 weeks and that was only b/c I had been taking care of them daily during the school week and I got put on bed rest and they thought I was sick/dying... so we let them know.
Other than that I haven't run around shouting from the rooftops. I'm 28 1/2 weeks and we are toying w/ the idea of coming out on facebook today b/c otherwise these kids are going to come and people will assume that we adopted or had a surrogate.... Chat Icon
My SIL just announced on Mother's day that she's 6 weeks pregnant. She supposedly found out at 3 weeks via bloodwork and hasn't seen anything via sono... she even told her 9 year old son... So we're 2 different extremes lol... everyone's different. Just do what you're comfortable with. Chat Icon

When to tell people?

I had an early mc so when I got pregnant the second time I immediately told my sister, then dh. I told a few friends sporadically when I felt like it and our parents at 13 weeks. I wanted to tell my mom earlier but she has THE BIGGEST mouth and I wanted to wait till I felt I was in the safe zone for her to know :)
