What age would you be comfortable dropping DC off at a movie theater? This would be a matinee at a smaller movie theater with 2-3 other kids.

I agree with the PP-- maybe 12. I do see younger kids being dropped off but I personally am not comfortable with the idea.

WOW 9/10? With no adult supervision...Ohhh no way. My son is 11 & I'm not ready for that. I would assume it depends on your child's maturity & his/her friends. I would prob feel ok (my son) with dropping him off at 14/15...for now.

Re: What age to drop off at the movies?

I have an almost 15 yr. old and I would say 12. I also have a 9 1/2 yr. old and would never leave him without a parent there.

Re: What age to drop off at the movies?

we're at 11 & not there yet.

Of course, they won't sit with us in the theater if their friends are thereChat Icon

Like everything it will be baby steps. A small, local theater (4 movies) with us watching something in the next room a few times.

Then maybe I'll be ok with a drop off.

I've seen kids get dropped off at 9- 10 years old too. While they acted like they were alone, another kid's mom was in the theater with his younger sister & keeping an eye out.

My son and his friends just started this and they are 14 (9th grade). One of the moms drops them right in front and one of us picks up as soon as the movie is over. The first time is weird and I felt a little uncomfortable (thank god for cell phones so I was able to check in with him).

You will change your mind as your child gets older. It is hard when your child is so young and you can't imagine doing it Chat Icon

Re: What age to drop off at the movies?

My 11 year old (who will be 12 on Tuesday) had his first drop off date at our local theatre recently! I was sick with nerves (circled the theater about 10 times, sat in the parking lot for a good 30 minutes.. ) but he did fine. He was with a group of about 10 kids his age.. I guess I should have felt worse for the other patrons and the workers.. Chat Icon

I don't think I'll be that nervous next time!
