Adjusting to a new schedule

So I am starting a new job in a few weeks. It will be Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30.

It's also an on-site position and there's clients there from 10-3 most days so I can't come and go.

Right now, I mostly go into the office Mon-Thurs and I can come and go as I please. (I can really do my work anywhere at this point).

This also is a little more of a commute for me (Have to drive from Western Suffolk up to Manhasset).

If you changed schedules for a new job, was it a big adjustment for you? How was the commute? (I know that the Northern State & Wantagh Parkway can be a b!tch during rush hour).

Disclaimer: I am leaving a pretty toxic working environment to a place that has been my dream company to work for so I see this as the only major tradeoff.

Re: Adjusting to a new schedule

It wasnt too bad, you'll adjust within a week or so to know exactly when to leave due to traffic. It took me about a week and a half to adjust.

Adjusting to a new schedule

I changed jobs but my commute was for the better... I was commuting into the city 5x week and now I go from Farmingdale to Bethpage 4x week and into the city 1x. But I would just do a test run one day before you start just to get a feel for the traffic situation. You'll probably have to adjust the time you leave along the way but at least you'll have an idea of what time you need to leave for your first day.

Re: Adjusting to a new schedule

So far I've completed 2 days of orientation and it hasn't been bad at all. I just gave myself plenty of time to arrive early, which I do normally.

Previously I was going from close to Babylon, to drop my son off in Seaford and then back to Babylon. Now it's more of a direct commute so not bad.
