Moms of 2 year olds in Dance
Im thinking about signing my DD up for dance in September. She will just turn two in Sept.
I'm not sure if she wlll take direction from the teacher or will it be a waste of money and and she will do what she wants to do.
Any experience with your 2 year old DD in dance would be greatly appreciated?
She is a twin, so I just want them to have different activities, so I can spend some one on one time with each of them,

I think it depends on your place. My DD's place was very easy going and it was more of a creative movement at that age. Other places are a little more strict.

Most studios will let you do a trial class before you officially sign up. Ask them if she can do that. Also keep in mind that even if it's tough at first they catch on to things quickly. Sometimes they cry for the first five minutes and then go home and tell you how much they love dance or their teacher. Fickle little things At that age they won't be expecting her to learn a dance. It's just about being separate from mommy, learning to stand in line, and being creative.

My DD loved her dance class, however I think she was too young for a recital. It was at a huge place and she just stood on stage so scared, i felt soo horrible! But every week she would beg to go to dance!

Re: Moms of 2 year olds in Dance
DD started with a summer program 3 months after she turned 2. She did okay, but I had to stay in the room with her (as did a few other parents).
I was really unhappy with that studio- they had a class with nine 2 year olds (and one that was even younger- like 19 months who just ran around with a pacifier in her mouth and ate snacks ) with only 1 teacher! It was ridiculous. Two or three kids would follow along with everything and the rest just did whatever. DD would start out listening and then follow the rest of the kids.
I started her at a different studio in the fall and we like it much better! She still needed me in the room for the first few months- but now she walks right in, participates in everything and LOVE LOVE LOVES it! (She is 3 now- turned 3 halfway through the year in March)
The new studio doesn't have a recital for the 2yr old class.
Definitely ask for reviews of the studios in your area!

Re: Moms of 2 year olds in Dance
My DD is 5 now, and has been taking dance classes since she was 2 (this year was her third recital.) I would highly recommend it! She absolutely loves it! At 2, they usually try to do a very simple routine and most kids end up doing one move in the recital, but it's so adorable, no one cares! I think it's good because she will learn to take direction and remember a routine. And, it's good for the social aspect too. But, if at any point, she begins to not like it, I would totally reconsider. I only kept my DD in because she lives for it! HTH :)
