Bris?
I am due early September & we are team green! I have to start inquiring about a Moyel if we have a boy. Does anyone know what they charge to do a bris at your home. Also, I was given the name of a Moyel used by a friend but if you have any recommendations, I would appreciate it! Thanks.

Re: Bris?
Most mohels will come to the house - it's the most common place to hold a bris. I will only use a mohel who is an MD - this is what my SIL did and she is a doctor so it makes sense to me. Unfortunately my bro and SIL live in Toronto or I would use who they used. My MIL wants me to us the mohel who did DH's bris - 32 years ago! Um, no!
PennyCat - could you send me your mohel's info too please?

We are not jewish and used cantor sherman when our ds was not cleared for circ at hospital. He was one excellent and it was done very well. He has been doing this for 30 yrs and has done 20,000 circs he charged 800 but always says he will accept what you can afford

Just wanted to say that's nice but not necessary. You'll be changing the bandage yourself every diaper change. It's not really a big deal.

We were told not to touch bandage!! We just made a penis sandwich with gauze and petroleum jelly each diaper change for a few days. We had a ped appt the day I was supposed to take the bandage off and the ped started to peel it off but said to leave it one more day bc it was still a little raw.
Expect the poor boy to be more cranky and uncomfortable for a few days!

Mohel's are MORE qualified than doctors. They see this as a calling, a duty.
This is what they do for a living and do it well.
So they are just as qualified, if not MORE SO.

Really? The Mohel told us to leave it on if it stuck, but change it each time if it came off. And the gauze did come off with every diaper change. You don't want to pull it off if it's scabbing to the gauze, but you should put enough neosporin on it so that it never sticks/scabs to the gauze.

I personally don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement. There at mohels who are not good at what they do, some that are excellent, doctors who do a good job, some that stink... I just don't think it's fair to make such a harsh generalization. Good luck to you!
Eta: my mohel is a pediatrician as well and I am very confident in my choice. Anyone who would like her info, please fm!

Re: Bris?
I agree not every mohel is better than a doctor. I will only use one that comes highly recommended by multiple people I know or at least one who is a doctor and mohel. Posted by PennyCat

Your Mohel can give you a bill to submit to your insurance. Your insurance should cover the medical part, not the religious part. We got reimbursed for most of it.
