won't sleep in bassinet

hi all, i have a 4 week old baby girl and she will not sleep in her bassinet! she refuses! she cries hysterically within 5 mins of me putting her in there. she will only sleep in her bouncy chair or her swing and i dont want her to get in that habit (altho i fear she already is...). any good ideas? i'm really sleep deprived and starting to lose my mind a little. :( thanks!

Is she swaddled? White noise? Do you put her down right after eating? For the first 3 months of babies lives they are still adjusting. My twins slept in their rockers until 3-4 months. They are fine nowChat Icon

At that age, I would just let my DD sleep wherever she was comfy.
She slept in her bouncy chair for the first few months.
The bassinet may be an issue with your baby because it's flat. Some babies need an incline to sleep
You should try the Fisher Price Rock n Play.
It's like a bassinet- but folds up and is on an incline.

My DS didn't like his bassinet either - he did the same as you DD is doing. We put him to sleep in his crib and he started sleeping much better and longer stretches. By the time he was 4 weeks old he was sleeping 11pm - 5 am.

At this stage, I don't think you are creating bad habits by letting her nap in the bouncy or swing. My DS also liked his rocking chair we had for him and would nap in that as well as the Pack n Play occasionally.

won't sleep in bassinet

Dd slept in her swing for the first 2 days we bought her home, then on me for a month because she wouldn't sleep anywhere else. At about 5-6 weeks I would let her pass out on me then I or Dh would put her in the bassinet. Now at 10w she has no problems sleeping in the bassinet. Let her sleep where she is comfortable so you sleep too

DD didn't like it either so she slept in the swing for 2 weeks then we got a RnP. She slept in that for about 4 months.

good to hear i'm not the only one with this issue. i just put together the pack and play and am hoping the vibrating bassinet will be the winner - so far she's been in it for 30 minutes with some minor squeaking. she is always swaddled and the crib was NOT a pleasant experience when i gave that one a shot. so we'll see how the PnP goes and worst case, i'll go back to the chair or swing b/c honestly, no sleep is killing me (and her i'm sure!!).

Re: won't sleep in bassinet

My dd also refused to sleep in he bassinet or be swaddled at 4 weeks. She slept in the bouncy seat until 10 weeks when the ped told us to sleep her in the crib on her belly.
She has sttn ever since.

Put your baby wherever she will sleep so you can sleep, too! The first few months is just survival mode. Don't worry about bad habits - did you ever see a teenager need to sleep in a swing? Or need to be rocked to sleep?

DS never took to the bassinet so we just gave up on it. For the first few weeks he would only sleep on me but I was exhausted so I finally tried the swing and it worked! Eventually he wanted to go to the crib.

Don't worry about habits b/c babies change so quickly!

Re: won't sleep in bassinet

DD hated being flat on her back so i let her sleep in her carseat, swing, and rock n play.

Re: won't sleep in bassinet

DD slept in a RNP during the night time and the swing during the day for naps until she outgrew it. We all needed rest and that was most important! Now she only sleeps in her crib so no fears about bad habits.

Same here...DS slept in his RnP until 7 week and then transitioned to his crib with no issues.
