House Hunting
Hi everyone! I was just wondering how long (on average) did it take you to find your current home. DH and I are currently searching for a house in Nassau that is still relatively close to Queens (since he had to commute there for work sometimes). We've been looking for a few months now and I am starting to get a bit discouraged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TYIA!

Re: House Hunting
18 mths first house and over 3 years second house. But I was not willing to settle on many things and inventory is tight both times where I was looking.

House Hunting
It took us a little less than 6 weeks to find the perfect house. Our timing was just right for the house we bought. We did not make any compromises on the house we bought and actually got some of the things that were wishes, in addition to all of our wants.

Re: House Hunting
We started going to open houses in the summer of 2011 just to get an idea of what we wanted. We seriously started looking January 2012 and put an offer in on a house (that didn't happen) and put an offer in on a second house at the end of Feb.
However, I still look to see what's for sale in our area and I feel like there are less houses on the market right now then there were last year.
Don't get discouraged!

The first time, 3 months but the deal fell through. Second time around, less than a month after we started looking.

Re: House Hunting
It took us 3 months because I was on a time limit with my student loans. So I was literally looking at houses in person and online day and night. I was sure we would have to settle just to get something and then at the last minute we found our house and it was perfect!

We got lucky and found it pretty quick but I can tell u it took my sister over 2 years to find one. Part of the problem was because they didn't focus on one neighborhood in the beginning. I can tell you I look every so often to see what's out there and currently what I am finding on the market I'm not too impressed!

Re: House Hunting
A few months - in between a few contracts falling through, looking at 40+ houses, it took some time but am happy we ended up with where we are.
What neighborhoods are you looking in? Feel free to FM me - our search criteria started in Queens and then as close to Queens as possible in Nassau. We're in Floral Park now.

Thanks ladies for all of the advice! I'm currently looking at Valley Stream, Lynbrook, and Floral Park. If you have any other suggestions on areas I could look at please let me know. I would love New Hyde Park but that is out of our budget right now. I think our real estate agent may be getting annoyed with us by now though, lol. I am willing to compromise but not settle if that makes sense.

Oh it's such a frustrating process. I hear ya. Our first purchase took us a few months but we got lucky Bc we wanted to be in one area and a house poppe up, however it was a starter home so our needs weren't too specific. Our second house (current home) we fell in love with immediately. We were casually looked for 2 months.
However this time around we've been looking for a year.
Btw I FM'ed you!
