having a generator installed...
We have a generator that we want to have installed to our electrical box. Has anyone done this and might be able to recommend someone or share what kind of cost we are looking at?

Re: having a generator installed...
You mean a transfer switch?
Transfer Switch
I actually installed one of these on my own after Sandy while I was still without power. It's not that difficult to do and with this transfer switch there are some pretty good youtube videos on how to do it. I will say you have to not be afraid to work inside your electrical panel with the breakers.
Saved myself at least $500 from an electrician doing it myself. I guess the hardest part was bringing the 10/4 wire to the outside and installing the outside outlet (where the generator would plug in). But I was lucky as the electrical panel in my house was right next to the exterior wall I wanted to install the outside outlet.
I would say if you want an electrician to install one of these, soup to nuts with all parts and wires you are looking at a $1000-1200 investment.
