Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills

Just wondering if anyone has information about the elementary schools in Dix Hills. One elementary school in particular is Paumanok. We are looking to buy a home that I believe is zoned for that school. I also read there may be a huge budget cut and they are possibly closing schools and programs. Does anyone know which schools?

Also, how is the area right near Strathmore Park (the other side of the Strathmore section) near Calumet/Fielding/Ibsen. I've been informed that the south of the LIE is less desirable but this section appears very nice. My husband and I don't know much about Dix Hills but we do know we want great schools and a safe community.

Any input or feedback would be so helpful as this is very stressful. Thanks!
