2 Loving House Cats NEED YOUR HELP!! PLEASE!

Carmine and Angel have lived with us since they were kittens (6 years). They are beautiful, friendly, social cats (not run and hide cats). Unfortunately, our two children are developing allergies to them. I myself am allergic but have been undergoing allergy shots for the last year. This is not an option for our children however, and we've been advised that we MUST find a home for them. PLEASE, we DO NOT want to give the cats to a shelter but at some point we will be left with no other choice. If you can, or know of someone who can give these two cats a home, please contact me so that further arrangements can be made. Carmine and Angel NEED your help, and so do we! They are male and female, 6 years old. Both have their claws, are fixed and have their shots. They are tabbies. Thanks in advance for your attention and help in this matter!!

they MUST be given a new home? I would get a second opinion. Where are these cats located? Do you have pictures. I will network them on my facebook but I will be honest and tell you that it is kitten season and all rescues are full. It is hard enough to rehome an older cat as it is but nearly impossible with all these brand new kitties running around! Other than shelters have you tried other arrangements. I would hate to see your cats spend the rest of their lives in a cage if other alternatives exist.

You say your children are "developing" allergies? How often do you vacuum? Most people are allergic to the saliva found in cats and not the hair itself. It can usually be controlled by lots of hand washing after touching the cats. Allergies were very bad this year. Perhaps it is environmental?

Do you have any family members that will care for the cats until a permanent home can be found? Friends of friends of friends?

Please Google cat rescue groups and animal rescue groups on Long Island. They are going to be put to sleep at a shelter. Even no-kill shelters ship animals off to kill ones.

Try the Long Island Cat Project and Bobbi & The Strays. Can your children take allergy medication or go for allergy shots? That is what I did when I was little and allergic to everything...it was fine. Your cats don't deserve to die because of this.

Sorry to be so harsh, but taking in a pet is a commitment for life. Do they go outdoors? Can they be indoor/outdoor cats? There has to be a better solution than a shelter.

You do not have a basement or garage they could even go in until you find your pets a safe and loving forever home, so they don't have to be left at a shelter to die? B/c the reality is they are not going to be adopted in a shelter, you are going to have to find them a good and safe home and this may take a while. But since you committed to them and have them so long, isn't that the least you can do (Find a way to keep them until you find them a safe and loving forever home)?

I agree. I am allergic to cats and I have two.
I control my allergires with meds- but mainly I dont' even have to take my meds with proper vacumming and hand washing.
Also, over time your body builds an immunity to your own cats- much like receiving allergy shots where they inject you with the offending allergen so your body builds a tolerance to that allergen.
I barely have an allergy attack around my cats anymore.

I agree that she should try to find another option being that it's kitten season and that even if a shelter were to take them, chances are they will sit in a cage for a long time. But to say that no kill shelters ship off to kill shelters is incorrect in all of my experiences!!! I have worked with three very reputable no kill shelters here on Long Island and I can confidently say that they keep all animals until they find a home. If the no kill shelter is reputable, they will only be euthanizing in situations such as terminal medical conditions.

In your experiences, yes. However, unfortunately, not all supposed "no-kill" shelters are like the ones you have worked with.
