DD having tonsils removed Monday
My DD is having her tonsils removed on Monday and of course this Mama is freaking out. I know its for the best because they are causing so many problems for her but the whole experience of anesthesia scares me....
Anyway my question is, for those whos children have had this done...what was your experience the first few days and what are the best things she should eat in the beginning??
TIA

Re: DD having tonsils removed Monday
The first few days are not that bad, its when it starts to "crust over" that it really starts to hurt
Lots of ice pops, jello, apple sauce...NOTHING sharp...not lollipops bc she can bite it. Also nothing Red (or even pink) Mac and cheese...I will try to think of others...My 2 oldest had theirs removed...def tough on Mommy, but the surgery is really quick! Hardest part was bringing them into the operating room. Just prepare for that. Its all white, and bare, and intimidating for you and child.

Re: DD having tonsils removed Monday
The first 6-8 days were just tough all around. The first day or 2 he was running a fever and completely lethargic. After that, came the pain. He was up all night long, did a lot of screaming, it was very tough. The only thing he would really tolerate was italian ices. Just not cherry or watermelon. We stuck with lemon.
It was the right decision though...after the initial week and a half, he was sleeping better, his speech improved, and he was all around much more pleasant during the day.

yes -try to avoid red things they told me at the hospital
so lots of Italian ices in lemon and orange and ice pops in green and purple
also we were allowed to have lollipops and it was recommended for me to get the ones with numbing stuff on them - I got them at cvs
also they said to avoid milk for a while
so we made lots of smoothies - with bananas pineapple, mango, and other non red fruits

First few days were toy because my dd didn't want to eat or drink anything, so I had to force her...doc also told me no straws because the sucking motion puts stress
