Danirella - How is your brother doing?
I was on the LIE the other day and was thinking about him. I asked over on FB but they said you updated here recently. Of course I can't seem to find the update.

Thanks for thinking of Kenneth
OK, let me explain a little lol:
The clip that was posted in the OP is from about a year and a half ago... give or take. He has come SO much further than even that clip shows LOL. That was when he first started walking (he started in the pool)... Now, he is walking with a cane and the wheelchair actually spends 90% of it's time in the closet... He is also speaking now in small sentences and it's not just basic phrases - he is conversational. For example he asked tonight "Can I have the salad dressing please?" So, it's really amazing how much of a difference just about a year and a half makes. I'm almost glad it was posted because when we look back, is when we realize.
Now, let me explain how it got re-posted. The Nassau County PBA had put this video up back when it first aired... Then, about two weeks ago I was contacted by the Asst District Attorney who prosecuted the man that hit Kenneth. She said he was slated to be released May 2014 -- so, this coming May. Fine. We knew that because that is basically SIX years of his SEVEN year sentence - all inmates get "good time" or "good behavior" and that equated to one year shaved off. Then, randomly, a few weeks ago we learned that he is eligible for an ADDITIONAL SIX MONTHS on top of that. Some new "we feel bad for criminals" incentive that they put into place just about a few months before the guy was sentenced so he is eligible. BUT, it has to be APPROVED by the Department of Corrections and the Parole Board.
If they approve it, instead of this coming May, he will get out THIS NOVEMBER.
I was NOT happy, to say the least.
I know it's only six months but it just isn't right.
So, hell hath no fury :)
I went to the Police Department, wrote up a petition - had copies of it distributed to every police precinct to have as many cops sign it as possible. I put a copy at headquarters, the PBA office, etc. The PBA and Department put it on their facebook pages - and then it went all over. BUT when the PBA put it up, they reposted the news video of Ken, just to show people the last update they have of him. Which is fine, it was very nice, BUT he has come SO much further and people don't realize that this is from about a year and a half ago.
Anyway, like I wrote, he is doing so much better than even he was then and honestly, I've been meaning to have another update done on him -- the news has contacted me asking to do another update. He has been progressing so well I kept saying, well, a little longer and he'll be doing ... ABC. Or a little bit longer and he could be doing... ABC. KWIM? So, I kind of kept waiting because he kept improving so much. But, I promise, I will contact them soon and take them up on their offer.
In the meantime, we have been receiving written letters from people ALL over opposing the early release of the person that hurt Kenneth. They see it online or wherever and email me (it says my email on there) the letter. Then, people can also find the petitions at any of the places I listed above to sign them -- mostly members of the PD.
Some people actually copied and pasted it, signed it and then snail mailed it or scanned it and attached it and sent it to me via email. Either way - whatever people want to do is fine.
Everything, at the end of the month, is coming back to me. I'm going to make copies of everything - letters, petitions, etc. and sent it all off to the Department of Corrections. So, I tell anyone - ANYTHING they want to do - letter, signature, is a big help. And I just spoke to Kenneth about this last night and he was just so thankful that people are willing to oppose this, write letters, sign petitions in order to support him -- but not just him, like Kenneth conveyed to us: it's about doing what is right. When someone is given a sentence and found guilty by a jury of his peers, they should serve that sentence and that's that.
Later on, I will post the petition information but it is currently on:
NASSAUPBA.ORG
So, if you want to go there now you can -- otherwise, I will post it later.
Thank you so much for all the well wishes! We are so blessed.

Re: Danirella - How is your brother doing?
I just added the most recent update which was on the other thread from the other day that Paramount was nice enough to bump for you... Thanks!!!
And thanks so much for thinking of him.
Like I posted above, the video is actually old - about a year and a half BUT it shows the beginning of him starting to walk and now, I'm happy to say, he is walking more and more -- and he actually does the treadmill now! He goes for about 20 minutes, un-assisted.
We are slowly but surely getting there.
I'm so happy because we will no longer need handicapped spots - which are almost always taken by people with no handicapped sticker or license plate I am always encountering violators of this and I just can't wait until it won't matter anymore. It's hysterical to see us park far and walk - with him either in the wheelchair or with a cane and then people do it just for convenience! And we walk by them and it's just sad but ironic - we can't let it get to us, so we just chuckle and shrug our shoulders.

Re: Danirella - How is your brother doing?
I sent out all of the letters and most of the petitions... still waiting on getting the rest of the petitions from the Department in.
But, we received so many letters that I needed to send it in a HUGE envelope - and the petitions too, everything was like a few hundred pages.
He may still be released early but that's OK - whether this "works" or not, doesn't matter, I had to defend what is right and I'm happy either way.

Just emailed you a signed petition. I hope it isn't too late!
