Yuck...Found Worms!

Sorry for the TMI post but DH found worms in my dog's poop this morning. We rescued him almost a month ago and is up to date on all his shots. I just brought a stool sample to the vet. So we should hear tomorrow what the deal is.

After doing a little research, I think its probably tapeworms. It seems tapeworms can be caused by fleas...he doesn't appear to have fleas. I even had the groomer do a good look over while he was being cleaned up. Not sure what to think. Any thoughts or experience with this and your pups?

Re: Yuck...Found Worms!

Same thing with us. Our first dog had roundworm and it only showed itself a few weeks after we got him.

It's very easy to get rid of, just a pill in their food at specific intervals to span the whole life cycle of the worms.

We've kept him on preventatives the five years we've had him and have never had a recurrence.

We also had fleas once, in the house. They scratched a lot and I actually saw the fleas on their stomach area/between their back legs. We switched to Frontline, I vacuumed the heck out of the house daily, replaced their dog beds, got them groomed, and we were fine. No flea dips or anything like that.

Since you've only had him for a month, you may see residual things from when he was in the shelter but give it a few more weeks in your care, and you will probably be fine from now on. Kudos to you for rescuing as well. Chat Icon

Make sure you disinfect your floors in your house too.

Re: Yuck...Found Worms!

We heard from the vet Monday afternoon. She said that the tech saw the worms but then the worms were not seen under the microscope. I never heard that one before. LOL
Anyway, he's on a prescription and should be good as new soon.
