Bus Vent
So DS will be getting summer services. Half day 9-11:30...at a school that is 12 minutes away. He will be picked up at 7:25am and brought home at 12:45. He will be on the bus for nearly the same amount of time that he is in school...

Re: Bus Vent
That seems very excessive. Have you called the bus company to complain? A few of my students parents have done this and the squeeky wheel tends to get the oil.

Re: Bus Vent
Its not the bus company you need to complain to it is the school district you are in. They are the ones paying the bus company. That is too long. Call and complain!!!!!

Re: Bus Vent
I get letters from my school saying other than having a contract with the bus company they do not deal with "bus issues" I had the same issue last year and called and spoke to the bus company supervisor. I explained that ihis drop off time was cutting into his home therapy time. They h ad to switch him on another bus. The bus company creates the routes that makes sense to them not the school. Unfortunately sounds like your child is the last drop off and I believe by law they can stay on the bus for a period of time.

This is true, the school won't deal with bus issues. Legally there is a long amount of time the child can be on the bus, but if you are annoying enough the bus company may just give in.

Re: Bus Vent
Domino, did you ever end up complaining? If so, did it help? I am finding myself in a very similiar situation. I don't think my daughter can tolerate that length of time on the bus.

Re: Bus Vent
I wound up not complaining. I decided to play it by ear and see how DS tolerated it. It was a little difficult some mornings but my son didnt seem to have any issues with being on the bus that long. Most days he napped on the way home.
However, I will say that I DID complain when he originally first started school back in September. It was the first time he was going to be on a bus and he was TWO. I called and complained the whole first week of school that the length of time on the bus was unacceptable. They did ultimately change the route. You need to speak to the supervisor of the bus company. I also spoke to the transportation liaison at his school. As a last resort, I was planning on contacting the school district.
