Bus Schedule Vent
DS turned three December1 and I was just given a bus schedule of 7:15 am pickup and 4:15 PM drop off for a school7.5 miles away. The school is five days a week full time (only available spot we could get for January). Yes, they tell me I could transport him but that would be challenging for me right now given other children in the equation. Anyone else in this situation or was in this situation. What did you do? If you did transport - how was the reimbursement? I seem to be getting the run around and my district seems very vague about the transportation situation. With this schedule it is a long day for a three year old. He will be napping way to late in the day on the ride home, we will have a hard time getting him to bed by 8:30 so he is up at 6:30 for a 7:15 bus pick up.

Bus Schedule Vent
What time does school start and end? That seems like an awful long time to be on a bus.
I drove DD to preschool and it was reimbursed. You had to fill out a form with milege monthly and you recieved a check every few months or so.

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
what are the school hours? If they are 9-2:30 I would be raising holy hell. They attempted to tell me that DS would be on the bus for over an hour when it only takes 12 minutes to get to his school and I screamed that it was unacceptable. They changed his schedule. That kind of schedule IMO is unreasonable and I would tell them so!

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
DS school hours are 8:45 AM to 2:45. By car it takes 20-25 minutes. Again , they have him on a bus for a total of 3 hours a day.

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
tHAT IS too long!!!!!! iT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!
I complained to the bus company, and the most important is the school district, because they are paying for transportation. The school wound up splitting the route, because there were many kids on his bus. You have to raise HELL to the school, the bus company will not do anything unless they get permission from the district!!!!

Do I raise hell to the school he is going to or the school district we belong to? I am told there are 14 kids on the bus.

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
YES! Call YOUR school district. They are the ones paying for the transportation. IMO 14 SN children on one bus is CRAZY. Tell them to break up the route.
P.S. I am pretty nonconfrontational by nature but the whole busing thing with my son made me a lunatic. I found that I did NOT catch more flies with honey, however, I did not need to go to the school district to get the change done. The bus company changed the route after I spoke to three different people. I also called DS' school and spoke to the person who handles transportation and let her know I was annoyed as well.

That is nuts! Way too long. I hope once you complain, they will be able to split the route. 14 kids is a packed mini bus!

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
Yes, well they said that by law 90 minutes( which DS has each way) is the max a child can be on the bus by NY law. My SD is supposed to be calling the bus company today ... let's see what happens next...

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
I just learned yesterday that Nassau County has a contract with two bus companies: Acme and WE Transport for the transportation of Special Needs Preschool children. It is the Department of Health and their transportation division that works with the bus companies. You can scream and rant at Mr./Ms. I am Overpaid in the school district and they are going to do squat unless you know someone.
Funny the Department of Health had nothing to say when I described that my son has to get up at 6:30AM to be ready at 7:10AM for a bus and will have to deal with being hungry until he gets breakfast at 9:15AM at the school. The Department of Health had no response to that statement. Ohhh but they love to send you free junk mail about the temperature of your baby's bath and stuff that you already knew.

Re: Bus Schedule Vent
This is horrible, I am a sp Ed teacher in the city and we have students getting picked up at 6:30 for an 8:10 start, for a ride usually half an hour by car.
One thing we have parents try to do is to get a note from their dr saying their child requires a limited run. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
