When did you first bring your child to the dentist?
At what age, or at how many teeth?
Dd is 11 months and has nine teeth, including one molar. Not sure when she needs to start having them checked out/cleaned by a dentist.
Also, any recommendations for the Ronkonkoma/Smithtown area?

When did you first bring your child to the dentist?
My Ped said 3...and I understand that. At 2 there is NO WAY a dentist can get into my DD's mouth and do anything of value before she went totally apeshit.

thats what my ped said. and i agree with you. it would be a nightmare having dd stay still and let someone look in her mouth.

OK good, that's what I was thinking because she puts up a fight just for me to wipe her teeth with a wash cloth. So I didn't see a dental checkup going over very well at this age, but I didn't want to let it go if its necessary.

Re: When did you first bring your child to the dentist?
DD was 18 months. She let the dentist go in and count her teeth with no issue at all. She only freaked out when the cleaning started, probably because of the noise, but it went quickly.

Re: When did you first bring your child to the dentist?
My ped also suggests 3. We went to the ped dentist at 12 months for an emergency visit (DD fell). They keep sending me "It's Time for a Check Up" cards but I'll probably go closer to 3 (this winter).

Re: When did you first bring your child to the dentist?
We took DD at 3.
Our Dentist website says to start at 1, but I personally thought that was too young, and wouldn't go well and would be a waste of time

YOu might be surpised. DS1 went at 3 (wish I had of gone earlier as he had a cavity due primarly to tooth placement) DS2 went just before 2. DS2 is my crazy child, and yet the dentist was able to get in there and count his teeth and quickly look for anytime that might be of issue. I wouldnt say it was the most comprehensive exam ever but it was enough. Ped dentists have a way...lol.
ETA: Our dentist is in commack.

Just shy of 2.5 she was excellent and I was surprised. I did prep her a lot, talked about the dentist and read books.

Re: When did you first bring your child to the dentist?
went for the first time today. DD just turned 3. I agree with previous posters - if i went at 2, there is no way she would have let the dentist into her mouth. At 3, she understood what was going on and she cooperated the whole time.
