Common core and the effect on children
This had many re-posts on Facebook yesterday. Thought I would post here too. It is so sad to see what is happening to education and the negative effects it is having on some children.

Common core and the effect on children
The common core is good for students who do not struggle. For the struggling students it just makes the gap wider. It is really upsetting.

I totally agree. This is what I'm beginning to see. It's horrible

Re: Common core and the effect on children
The only thing common core is going to do is discourage every kid from being the best they can be. It's a disgrace what they are asking of these kids.

I don't even know anymore if it's good for students who do not struggle. I teach 4th and am seeing the smartest kids already having issues.

I disagree. I'm seeing a lot of my good students having a lot of trouble with the common core. They are surviving but it is definitely tough on them. My struggling students are drowning in this one size fits all program.

Common core and the effect on children
For the first time my son has been saying he hates school and doesn't want to go anymore and he's afraid of failing the tests. He's a good student academically but he is getting beat down by this testing nonsense.

Re: Common core and the effect on children
They rolled this out all wrong in my opinion. I attended a workshop over the summer and they kept emphasizing how the Common Core is based on scaffolding. So, if that's the case, it should have been rolled out this year in K, next year K, 1 and each year moved up a year so the students would have the foundation from the year before, just raising the bar and throwing kids into this is ridiculous.

This! I actually like the common core standards, but to expect older kids to go back and relearn ways of doing things has been tough.

Common core and the effect on children
The common core standards are not the issue. I think many teachers like the standards itself- if you look closely, ,many of the standards we taught already. However, it is the impulsive implementation of these standards which is tied to the state test which is tied to teacher evaluations that is absolutely ridiculous. If teachers like me were allowed to develop our own lessons based on common core that would be great. But this is not the case. We are given modules., scripts which strip us of our creative expertise. Programs that are half ass put together we have been given no time to go over these modules or programs. No professional development. And with the new APPR put in place kids are taking baseline tests interim tests, summaries tests in multiple subjects plus the test prep and standardized tests. It is too much!!!!
