coxsackie ???

DD goes to a sitter 2 days a week, she also watches 2 other children (brothers). Well, sitter just sent me a text that one of the boys school sent home a message that a couple kids had coxsackie last week. The older boy was only in school 1 day last week and is not showing any symptoms. She also said that if she thought he had it, she would not be watching him.
What should I be looking for as far as symptims go (DD is only 21 months)?

I do not want to google.

Thanks.

My daughter had it last Oct when she was 14 months. A present from her older brother. I first noticed tiny red dots on the bottoms of the feet and palms of hands. Slight fever and a few red dots around lips then followed. It must have been a mild strain because it never got much worse than that. The dots were painful, but the fever never got too high. Maybe 102 briefly? All I could do was give motrin. It took a while for the dots to fade. Supposedly, you are contagious for a while after the blisters (dots) present themselves.

The one time my DD had it she had a ton of really bad sores in her throat and mouth. She had difficulty eating and drinking and would cry that her mouth hurt a lot. She also had a pretty high fever.........102-103. There isn't much you can do for them when they have it other then to give Tylenol/Advil, keep them comfortable, and let it run it's course. My DD was feeling better after a few days. Chat Icon

Oh boy. Thankfully I have not noticed anything like that. They don't give antibiotics for it?
What about being around pregnant women? (I am 13 weeks now).

Re: coxsackie ???

DS had it over the summer. There is nothing you can do for it. Avoid acidic foods. Thats about it. He was screaming in pain and wouldn't eat anything. He also had a fever so we gave him tylenol for that.

OMG, I hate coxsackie!!! My daughter got it at 11 months and shortly after so did my husband and I. Luckily she did not have it the worst of the three of us so that's something.
She started with a fever of 102 for two days with no other symptoms. I took her to the doc and they were the ones that told me it was coxsackie. Like pp said there is nothing the doc can do for it but as she is my first I always feel better taking her in. She got the throat sores and would only eat ice pops for one day but kept drinking.
She also had the blisters on her hands and feet. She was better within a week.

It's ok to be around a child with coxsackie while pregnant.

My DS was irritable, had his hands in his mouth constantly (thought he was teething) and had a fever. The next day the blisters came out.

Same for us - DD got it a few months ago with blisters in her mouth and throat. You just have to wait it out.

It is not dangerous if you're pregnant - I'm pregnant too so I made sure of that.

Thanks everyone. Sounds terrible for a little one to have.

One last question. . . does anyone know how long it takes for the symptoms to develop after being exposed?

I believe it's 3-7 days or something like that, but I would ask the doctor.

Also, the kids are contagious for up to a week after symptoms occur IIRC.

My son had 104 fever and blisters in his mouth! It was horrible. He was also throwing up the first day. It took a few days to calm down. He enjoyed ice cream the most!

Not dangerous to pregnant woman.

Re: coxsackie ???

when DS2 had it last year, he didnt have alot of symptoms at first. He was just miserable, like nothing would make him happy or calm him. Then he started getting a rash under his arms and a fever that was pretty high for about a week. after a week of this the dr saw him and he had sores in his throat.

DH got it a week later and said it was miserable, worse than the flu. DH gets everything the kids have.

DS1 got it at the same time, had a very mild fever and a rash on his hands and that was it!

coxsackie ???

When DS had it, he started breaking out in tiny red dots on his hands and feet. They eventually turned into blisters.

Low grade fever and irritable.... I hope DS doesn't catch it!
