cystic fibrosis carrier testing??
I just got a call from my obgyn office that I am a carrier for cystic fibrosis. Now my husband has to get tested to see if he is a carrier. If he is the baby will have a 1 in 4 chance of having it, if not the baby will be fine. I am nervous and freaking out. Was anyone else in a similar situation?

Re: cystic fibrosis carrier testing??
I had the same thing when I was pregnant with my son. I came back as a carrier. I was so worried about it. Thankfully, ten days later we got the results that my DH is not a carrier so we do not have to worry about it. It was right between christmas and new years and I was a basket case. DH could not understand why, but it was probably a combination of hormones, the holidays and just plain not knowing. I was on top of the lab every day to see if the results came back.
FYI, even if DH is not a carrier, your DC could be a carrier like you are. My DS had a positive test on the newborn screen because he is also a carrier. Thankfully I knew this could happen so it did not freak me out. NYS mandates that they then be tested for cystic fibrosis because early intervention is key. We had to wait until he was about 4-5 weeks old to have the test done because they have to be 8 lbs and he was only 7 when he was born. They do a sweat test.

I'm a CF carrier, so DH had to get tested. I too was very nervous about the result while I waited to find out! Thankfully DH is not a carrier. Good luck & try not to worry about it, there's a very good chance your DH is not a carrier.

The same thing happened to me. I am a carrier, thankfully DH turned out not to be. I know it is easier said than done, but try not to worry too much, bc chances are very good that you have absolutely nothing to worry about. What helped me also was thinking this way - that if even DH was a carrier, there was a 75% chance that the baby would be born completely healthy, as opposed to thinking of a 1 in 4 chance that the baby would have CF. Good luck!

The same thing happened to me. I was a nervous wreck and freaking out. Very close family friends of ours had CF and it's all I could think about. DH got tested and was not a carrier, thank God. Stay calm even though I know it's so hard to do. Thinking of you!
