spinoff to Materi21 test - insurance related
I had my test done back in October. My doc office sent it to a lab in California (I have to look up the name when I get home). Well last week I got a bill from the lab for my responsibility - - $1,130. I nearly fell on the floor. I checked with my insurance co and it was right since the lab was OON. I called the lab to discuss the bill and the girl I spoke with asked if I had gotten the payment assistance program notice with my bill, which I did. She then says that they can adjust my bill and the balance due will be $200. I have no idea why or how she did this, but I am now paid in full. I wanted to let everyone know just in case you get blind sided by an enormous bill

crazy! I was told insurance doesn't cover it so I didn't go for it. I would've preferred that test
If I was 35 or something came up abnormal on the NT test I could've gotten it

spinoff to Materi21 test - insurance related
I got that same bill after both my dr and the genetic counselor told me around $200/250. The woman on the phone said something about NY that they have to send the full bill but they can reduce it to $200. Makes no sense to me but I'm glad I called!

Same thing happened to me, but I had no idea it wasn't covered until I got the bill. My insurance covered 80% but I'm still responsible for $200+ of it. I'm annoyed my dr didn't tell me ahead of time or I wouldn't have had it done. I could have waited until 16 weeks to do that testing. So frustrating

Crazy! My genetic counselor said to expect this. She said we will probably get a large bill, but to call the lab and they cap it at 200. one lab caps it at $900. insane. Im glad she told me about that ahead of time.
