About to redo my kitchen
Who did you use ?
I am about to begin doing my kitchen and frankly I'm dreading it.
In the past 5 years we've done 3 1/2 bathrooms, a basement, the roof, the windows, the siding, re landscaped, took down a deck and put down pavers, and re paved our driveway, and re did all the floors, molding and closets upstairs. I used the same contractor for most of the work but really wasn't pleased with the last job he did.
So I'm looking for a GC, who works in western Suffolk, who you've had a good experience with. As I said, I dread this job because I know what upheaval awaits me.
Also, curious as to whether you shopped your cabinets in a big box retailer, a discounter (like the places in Flushing that I've seen mentioned here), or went custom?

Re: About to redo my kitchen
No personal experience but my neighbor is using Gamco to redo his kitchen and he is very happy with them. The owner I believe is also a kitchen designer.

About to redo my kitchen
I did my own kitchen so I can't help with that but I got my cabinets at Consumers. They are always having specials. I priced the same exact cabinets at Consumers, Lowes and HD. Consumers was significantly cheaper.
I have Kraftmaid cabinets and LOVE them.

We're getting the Kraftmade too - we loved them, good to know someone else did. Did you install yourself? That's one of the reasons why we like Lowes b/c they will install.

Yeah we did everything in the kitchen ourselves. We went right down to the studs. My dad came to live with for a month to help do all the renovations (we gutted our entire house). he had installed cabinets 3x in our houses growing up so him and I took a day and did the cabinets. So easy and now I'm so glad I know how.
I love doing home improvements and would flip houses if I had the time and money.

About to redo my kitchen
We bought cabinets from LIS Custom in Hicksville. It took a little long for them to come in, but it was worth the wait.

Re: About to redo my kitchen
We got the Kraftmaid from HD because of the 'no interest for 24 mos.' ...
...but it was a hassle to ensure the design and options were what we wanted. The designers at Lowe's/HD seem to follow a basic design formula for all their projects and we have our own preferences and ideas. In the end, we persisted and got what we wanted.
