how much food?

let me preface this by saying i have never hosted a party at my house before so i am clueless

i am looking to have about 22 people over for DHs birthday and going to cater in Italian food

i was thinking of getting:
salad
fried calamari
penne with vodka sauce
baked zitti
chicken parm
veal marsala

the trays come in either half which says it serves 10-12 or full 18-20

would you get full trays on everything? half trays on some (maybe half salad and calamari?)
halves of the above and add other options

i am open to anything
all feedback appreciated

Can they do a mixed veggie or a pasta primavera? It would be nice to have something with a hot veggie, not just salad. Also, will fried calamari hold up well in sternos? I don't eat calamari but I know it can get rubbery.

I'm no help on the amounts, sorry.

Re: how much food?

I'd skip the calamari - reheated rubbery calamari is not a crowd pleaser .......
Maybe an eggplant?

I'd go all full trays, and add some bread.

for 22 people you do not need 4 full trays. Each tray feeds 18-20 and thats assuming all 20 people are only eating that.

you really have to feel out your crowd. Like, for my family the pasta and salad would go more then the chicken and veal. so I would do half trays of those.

I would probably suggest doing one full tray and one half of the pastas - you pick which one you think your crowd would eat more of. and same for the meats. One full tray of chicken and half of veal.

I would nix the calamri like Marisa said. They are not good heated up at all.

I would do half tray each of the pasta and then full trays of the meat. Maybe add a half tray of grilled veggies you can make strings beans and then after boiling them toss them in olive oil. My family loves this and it is so easy.

If you are not having kids I would skip the baked ziti and just keep the vodka sauce.

I just had a party with that amount of people. I got a half tray of ziti, half of meatballs, half of salad and alf a pasta salad and some heros. You will have a ton leftovers if you get full trays

I would skip calamari too - it's just never the same if its not eaten right away. I would do a full salad, half trays on pastas and do a full tray on chicken and half on veal...instead of the calamari maybe a veggie like others suggested or another appetizer?
