20 weeks with a short cervix
Just wanted to know of anyone else that has gone through this and their stories. I went in for my 20 week scan today and everything looks great with the baby but the dr told me my cervix is a little short. I go back in a week to have it measured again.
Pretty much just wanted to know what I can do in the meantime and what steps other doctors have ended up taking

What was the measurement that they gave? did they take any baseline measurements before this scan?

This was the first time they checked the cervix. I believe it was 2.7. I have to go back in a week and see if there's a change or not. The dr told me to take it easy and put me on pelvic rest for now and he said we'll see what next week says and that bed rest and maybe a stitch are possibilities. I'm just a little worried. I dont want the LO coming out too early

Re: 20 weeks with a short cervix
With my first pregnancy, they checked me once around that time and told me my cervix was looking a bit short. Was told to take it easy and drink gallons and gallons of water to prevent contracting of the uterus which may cause more shortening. I believe no for a few weeks as well. Went back a few weeks later and all was fine again.

I was monitored for cervical shortening up until 22 weeks. I was told if my cervical length was less than 2.5 then I would be a candidate for a cercalage and/or bed rest. My SIL had a very short cervix and was put on bed rest from 20 weeks until 37 weeks.

Yup been there twice. Bedrest at 32wks for #1 and then pre term labor. I had steroid shots and procardia at home. I delivered at 37 wks. The funny thing was my water broke and I needed pit to get my contractions to do anything. Bed rest at 30wks for #2. Preterm labor as well and procardia. Fluid leaking at 37wks and had a c-section. With bedrest you should see it hold steady, but they will monitor you. I had cervical ultra sounds every 2wks until 35wks to check it. Once on bedrest my cervix never got any shorter. I was at 2.1 when that happened both times and stayed there.

I dont want to scare you but I lost my daughter to cervical insufficiency at 22w. Keep as much weight as possible off of it and try to get progesterone suppositories. You should be monitored weekly. At 20w+ there is more risk to the dr breaking your amniotic sac while placing the vaginal cerclage so they will usually put you on some sort of bed rest. Key is to keep weight off it so that it does not shorten any further. The progesterone will help calm the uterus since your at risk for pre term labor.

And all of you delivered happy, healthy babies? I decided to put myself on a modified bed rest until next week in hopes that will help it a little. This is my first so I'm just worried about her coming to soon

Re: 20 weeks with a short cervix
They discovered I had a short cervix at 25 weeks. Placed on strict bed rest at 27 weeks and had my son at 34w6d. Good luck!!!! And rest as much as you can!

20 weeks with a short cervix
i found out i had a short cervix at 27 weeks and was put on strict bedrest (could only get up to shower and pee). i was eventually switched to modified rest but i was never allowed to return to work. i made it full term and my son was born a day before he was due. i was also on procardia and progesterone (and one other drug i can't remember!) i don't want to scare you but i would definitely take it seriously and maybe even get an appt with a high risk doctor! good luck and take it easy!

My appt next week is with a high risk dr. Right now I'm out of work so I don't have to worry about that. I'm just sitting in bed trying to relax I just hate the waiting

Re: 20 weeks with a short cervix
i had a short cervix with my 1st but unfortunately found out and it was too late i was 21 weeks, but then with my son 18 weeks was put on bed rest until 36 weeks, had him at 37 weeks, and i had a cerclage. with my DD who is now 13 weeks, i had a cerclage placed when i was 13 weeks pregnant, and never had a issue after that. Delivered her a 36.5 weeks b/c i went into labor. Rest as much as possible, don't lift anything, no straining, and absolutely no sex until after you have the baby, i know some said a few works but thats incorrect, none at all. you don't want to stimulate your cervix. I hope you are feeling well.

Try to lay down as much as you could, left side is best. I was on strict bed rest and was only allowed to sit up for meals, bathroom, and a 5 min shower.
