Town of Islip permits
My husband and I just became first time homeowners 7 months ago and want to do some work to our house soon, starting with putting in a half bathroom. We unfortunately know nothing about how to go about doing this legally. Can anyone give me any advice about where to start getting information for what permits we need and what we need to do to before we can start constructing the bathroom? My husband is very handy so him and his brother plan on doing the work so we won't be using a contractor. We live in the town of Islip. Any info would be helpful!! Thanks so much!!

Here's the website: http://www.townofislip-ny.gov/departments/planning-and-development/building-division-permits-section
If you go to the office, or call them, they will be more than happy to tell you exactly what permits you need, and what needs to be done. Even though ToI seems to need permits for everything, the main office is very helpful.

You will need plans from an architect if you're adding a bathroom to a space. My DH is one. I Sent you FM with more info.
Congrats on new house. Def call the town they should tell you what you need.
