Weird question: Taco sauce
DH and I love taco sauce. Just the regular bottled version from Ortega. I probably go through a bottle a week.
Is there a (somewhat) healthier version you can make on your own that tastes the same?
I usually buy the mild version but would try a spicier for a kick.

Weird question: Taco sauce
I looked at the nutritonals and the ingredients online -- Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Water, Corn Syrup, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Modified Corn Starch, Spices, Paprika, Citric Acid, Green Chile Powder, Onion Powder.
It doesn't seem to be that bad for you/filled with preservatives and chemicals. That said, I did a google search and found this http://www.themakeyourownzone.com/2011/06/do-you-like-ortega-taco-sauce-try-making-your-own.html

Re: Weird question: Taco sauce
My step mother used to make salsa with:
Canned crushed tomatoes Onion Cilantro Chilies Salt Pepper Lime juice Garlic
I dont remember the measurements but it was chunky with lots of onion and cilantro but like a picante (watery) at the same time. It was always a hit when she made it.
