cold weather gear

So yesterday I realized that I should probably buy ski pants or some kind of snow gear, since I don't own anything water proof. My gloves are also a joke when it comes to weather like this. My once awesome boots are pretty old and need replacing.

Would you mind showing/telling me what your cold weather stuff looks like and where you got it? (gloves, pants, base layers mostly - we have lots of boot threads that are already helping me out!)

I have the north face shellista winter boots. They are great because they have the rubberized bottom part to be both waterproof and warm. They are also very quilted and fully lined. For heavy duty snow removal I also have a 20 year old pair of LL Bean boots with wool liners. They are good for snow removal.

I have thick waterproof gloves that I got at costco. For yesterday, I took my $3 stretch gloves from Target and wore them, then wore the more waterproof costco gloves on top of them. They kept my fingers perfectly warm.

I have a lands end coat that is rated for -10 below. With this weather I am sort of wishing that I got the -30 below one, but never really thought I would need something rated so low. But on a normal day to day basis I think a -30 below one would be to warm.

Under the coat I wear a bra, a long sleeve cotton shirt (though if you have an under armor shirt that would be good too).

I also wore a polar fleece from lands end. Then the coat. I think layers are extremely important in weather like this.

I also have a hat. Somewhere here I think I have ear muffs and need to find them.

I also have scarves. I just ordered balaclavas for myself and the kids from walmart.

If you have large sun glasses or ski goggles, those would be good to protect your eyes.

Make sure to moisturize your lips, cheeks, ears, nose and fingers.

I like Patagonia base layer the best. They come in different weights. I wear the top with a long sleeve shirt and my Marmot ski jacket (highly recommend this brand for ski jackets- Often it is too warm). On the bottom I wear jeans and base layer unless I am going to to be outside for a long time (hiking, etc.)--If I am going to be outside for long periods of time I wear DH's old North Face ski pants. For my feet I wear timberland insulated socks and either hiking boots/shoes or snow boots.

It depends upon what you are doing. Are you walking, skiing, sledding? Just going to and from your car? Yesterday as I was standing and removing the snow from my car I wore pj pants, jeans, and then moisture wicking wide leg yoga pants. If you were going skiing or sledding, you could do long johns, fleece pants, and snow pants. It depends upon where you are going and what you want to do.

Base layers I get from Uniqlo heat tech line. Super cheap and amazing

Snow pants I got from Columbia as well as a few vests and omni tech zip ups. I went to the outlets and will be going back as soon as possible. Was walking around today (on vacation in Italy) in just a zip up with a heat tech shirt underneath and was sweating.

Burberry golashes, sorel snow boots, but I have only been wearing uggs.

I got my ski pants at Overstock.com. Super cute, comfy, girly and cheap LOL cause ski pants can get crazy expensive! I still wear thin leggings under them (I use reg leggings and when I went skiing I had long johns under them)

I have the Ugg boots Adridronack style. They are water proof and super warm! I LOVE THEM! Especially for right now when its all snowy and slushy. They are super comfy and I like the style. I also have Hunter boots with the fleece socks which I use in more rain or super slushy weather.

I have the North Face long waterproof jacket which is BY FAR HANDS DOWN the warmest jacket I have EVER owned. It comes to my knees. I LOVE this jacket and have had it for about 3-4 years now.

I also have the NorthFace fleece gloves which I love and keep me super warm.

I don't usually wear a hat I will just put my hood up BUT I did buy one this year and its just stylish knit slouchy hat. That's the only thing I will really wear.
