cysts and BCP q
not sure where to ask this but, I have a question for those who have had/familiar with ovarian cysts... about 3 weeks ago I went to my OB because I felt a bit of pain, and have been dealing with irregular cycles. He did an ultrasound and found a few cysts on one of my ovaries and told me that I had to go on BCP for at least 3 months for them to go away. Anyone know for about how long it takes usually for cysts to go away? I would rather get off BCP as soon as possible. Prior to conceiving my DS w/ RE's help, I was on BCP for 10 years and I believe that was a cause of my hormones being screwed up when I decided to TTC (I plan to TTC DC #2 this summer). Thanks in advance for any advice/answers you can give.

Re: cysts and BCP q
It really depends on the person. Some it only takes 1 cycle on them, for others it can take a few months. That's probably why your OB suggested 3 months to clear them up. Also depends on size.
Is you Dr. going to monitor you after each cycle on the BCP? or Does he plan on just seeing you in 3 Months time?
If you want to be off them sooner then later, ask if you can go in for Monthly Sono to see how you are responding to BCP.

Re: cysts and BCP q
I had to take BCP for 10 days because of a cyst brought on by clomid. After 10 days I went back for bloodwork and an ultrasound and they saw that is started to shrink and it wasn't producing estrogen so they weren't concerned about it. They took me off the BCP, waited for AF, and started a new cycle.

Re: cysts and BCP q
BCPs are great for suppressing and getting rid of cysts. Many Drs agree with a 3 month stint so they definitely go away. Some women undergoing fertility treatments still have the meds in their blood long after the cycle and need the BCPs for a longer period to keep the cysts away. Some RE's also believe you are more fertile the month coming off of BCPs bc of the suppressing. I am going on them for a bit and then starting a stim cycle soon. I also make cysts and dominant follicles so they will help control it and give me a more predictable cycle (I hope)..
