pregnancy, spotting and a rhogam shot question
After 3 miscarriages I'm pregnant again but I had some brown spotting Sunday and Monday. I started progesterone and the spotting stopped. I called my doctor's office this morning for blood test results and they told me I must come in this morning for a rhogam shot. I never heard of this. I told them there is a chance I might not be miscarrying so why do I need the rhogam shot and they said it needs to be administered within 72 hours of the bleeding. Does anyone know about this?

Yes. It's because if it is a miscarriage and they do not give you the shot, it's a huge risk to all future pregnancies.
I am A- and had to get this as soon as we found out the pregnancy wasn't viable.
Hopefully it's just a precaution and everything is ok. Better to be safe though

Re: pregnancy, spotting and a rhogam shot question
If you don't receive the shot and Godforbid miscarry and your blood mixes with baby then your body will produce antibodies and fight off every other pregnancy after this. It'll basically look at your future pregnancies as something foreign that is trying to harm your body. My sister had to get the rhogam shot earlier than expected when she was pregnant with my nephew and there was no harm.

Yeah no issues with it , in my case I am weakly rh positive but lab reports me negative so I had to get it at 34 weeks when I developed placental bleed

Re: pregnancy, spotting and a rhogam shot question
ok so as far as I know I'm not miscarrying just yet. I thought I was when I started bleeding but my HCG doubled with the next blood test but my progesterone decreased. I started the progesterone and I'm still waiting to hear the results of my blood test but since I haven't officially miscarried yet I assume there is time to get the shot? I ask because I can't get to the doctor's office today and the PA on the phone I don't think knew what was going on. It's a doctor's office I've only been to once, they don't have my records and I've only spoken with the doctor, never been examined.

Re: pregnancy, spotting and a rhogam shot question
The reason they make you get it is because JUST INCASE there is an issue, if your blood mixes with the baby's blood (and the baby is RH+) then you instantly begin making antibodies that fight all foreign bodies (including current and future fetus'). The Rhogam shot prevents you from making the antibodies. It is better to get the shot and be safe then not get it and have the antibodies build up in your system....
Hope that helps
