LIJ employees
Has anyone heard that LIJ gives a $70k down payment grant to their nurses to buy a home?

Re: LIJ employees
No but I haven't viewed everything benefits-wise (outside of healthcare) that carefully. (And we already own our home). I'm also not a nurse and we do not have any nurses in our program. I also wonder if there are differences between unionized and non-unionized employees?
Do you work for the health system?

Re: LIJ employees
I don't but someone was telling me about this grant program and I was just blown away! It's apparently $70k free and clear for a down payment, but you have to live in your house for 10 years. I could deal with that!

Re: LIJ employees
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
The health system is a wonderful place to work for and they treat their employees extremely well.
I can't remember who but I know there are some LIJ nurses on this site.

It's very hard to get and it's for most employees but you have to qualify. One of the things they look for is that the combined income of you and your spouse can't be above a certain amount and it has to be the first property you have ever owned

Makes sense. I was curious myself and have been trying to access the benefits guide but I think there's an issue w/ the server because I haven't been able to get on since last night.

They do. I don't know the exact amount but one of our good friends just did this and they got lots of money for their down payment.

That is seriously amazing. Not gonna lie- slightly jealous! Lol I can't even imagine getting my down payment free and clear instead of having to empty my savings!

Re: LIJ employees
It's so hard to get a job in the health system though.
Seriously, I applied for years and never got a response. I found out a colleague was retiring and submitted my resume on a whim (also had done a little bit of work with her boss/now my boss).
I'm convinced that's why I got my job. Our dept is never really hiring though (on occasion for per diems and we might be hiring a P/T admin).
A lot of the staff have been there 12 years +++. My boss has been there since the program opened.

LIJ employees
I am a NSLIJ employee and I did work with a mortgage company that is affiliated with NS so I think I saved some money in closing costs. I never saw any assistance program for nurses, but I did for doctors (go figure LOL). I hope I didn't miss something!!
