Glucose Tolerance Test
Just got back my results and I passed, but just barely. 140 or over is gestational diabetes - my level was at 137.
If you were borderline, how did you change your diet? The nurse on the phone just said to watch my refined sugar intake.
I will ask more questions at my 28 week appointment next week.

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
Was this your 1 hour or 3 hour test?
ETA: my doc said anything over 130 is failing.

1 hour. I looked it up online and it also said 140 is failing.

It depends on your doctor's office. Some do the 130 cutoff, some do 140.

Glucose Tolerance Test
Cut out white flours, processed foods, refined sugars. Up your fiber and protein.

Glucose Tolerance Test
Okay - thanks!
I do not really eat any processed foods or things like white bread and what not. I very much shop the perimeter of the store. We keep very few (if any) snacks in our house with the exception of a weekly homemade dessert. I do not drink sodas or juices.
I probably could stand to add some more protein to my diet. Guess I will be adding the dreaded greek yogurt back into my diet - I hate it, but will eat it if necessary.
I also eat 4 Hershey kisses a day and a small snack after dinner. Guess I will just skip the snack.
ALSO - did people eat before their 1 hour? I had some cereal with milk - could that have negatively affected the outcome? I read online that you were allowed to eat.
I know I passed, but I do not want to do unnecessary harm to the baby.

It doesn't matter what you ate before. If you have GD, you have GD no matter what. It's all about how your body handles carbs. I get higher readings w/ fruit and cheese than I have after eating sugar free jello w/ cool whip. It's strange.
Snacks are a big deal so I wouldn't skip them. Just make sure they are balanced in protein and carbs (ex: whole wheat toast w/ PB).
The best yogurt to eat w/ GD is Dannon Light & Fit Greek. It has more protein than carbs.

I meant the bad for you snacks (ie dessert and kisses). My morning snack is usually something like PB and a banana or almonds and raisins.
Since I am not technically diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I am not going to go crazy, but I want to be making better decisions.
Thanks for your help!

Glucose Tolerance Test
Try to eat protein and carbohydrates together at every meal/snack. Dried fruit like raisin are very high in sugar- you may want to consider replacing them with fresh fruit if possible. If you take a look at the glycemic index of different foods online it may be helpful.

You passed. My Dr has never told me my number with either pregnancy. Passing is passing, IMO. Of course, it's always a good idea to try to eat healthier, but I wouldn't really worry, especially if your doctor didn't tell you to do anything specific.
EtA, I fasted before my 1hour both times. While it's not required, my Dr said that if I failed the 1hour by only a few points and didn't fast, I'd be kicking myself. He said you get a slightly more accurate result if you fast. But obviously it doesn't affect it enough that they require fasting, kwim.

Actually, with the 1 hour, what you eat before CAN affect the outcome. The 1 hour has a high rate of inaccurate results, which is why the 3 hour exists. To the OP, I wouldn't worry about changing too much, especially since you did pass, and your doctor didn't give you specific instructions.
